Almost makes me wish I'd hit one of the local Heathkit stores before they closed, bought a kit at a huge discount, and shelved it unbuilt. Sounds like it might be worth a small fortune...

at least to this sub-genre of unbuilt-kit collectors.

But, I mean... really. What are you going to do with it once you get it?
-- Build it and destroy all the perceived value? I'd be suspicious of the caps, for one thing.
-- Display it? A box full of parts?
-- Shelve it and resell it in a year or three for a profit? You'd better hope it increases in value, and that the market doesn't fall out on you.

And that's all assuming that it really IS a new, never built kit. I've heard a few horror stories of people who THOUGHT that's what they bought, but instead got a previously built rig that had simple been dis-assembled. Not always propertly. And sometimes with missing or substituted parts.

Still got a few dried out bulbs in the garage waiting for the next Tulip Mania (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tulip_mania).

Let's just assume for a moment that it's all on the up and up. Some of the dried out and old parts can be replaced with newer, faster, stronger components. $1200 is a steal if it is. Not even to mention all the upgrades that are common these days for those old HKs.

Careful Jeff, I feel a Larry Ferrari joke coming on...
