I came across this during my morning readings...

Beginner Geek: How to Burn an ISO Image to a Disc

There may be a time when you have an ISO image that you need to burn to a CD or DVD for use in a computer or other device. Today we show you how to do it using ImgBurn, ISO Recorder, and Windows Disc Image Burner in Windows 7.

You might need to burn an ISO of an operating system, software app, CD, DVD…etc. It doesn’t matter what the ISO image is, burning an image is a fairly straight-forward process and here we’ll take a look at three free options to accomplish it.

Here is a page that discusses ISO file mounting, and software reviews/discussion.

WinCDEmu

After reading the reviews and user comments, I downloaded and did a quick test on WinCDEmu
http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/
http://sourceforge.net/projects/wincdemu/

I found this to be super easy to use. Double-click on ISO file, and the WinCDEmu dialog box pops up.

http://wincdemu.sysprogs.org/tutorials/mount/02-dialog.png

Make your selections, and click OK, and the ISO file mounts, and is accessible.

To unmount, right click on ISO drive, and click Eject. Unmounts

They have pictorial tutorials on how to install, mount, and create ISO.

Doesn't get much easier than that.

You can also create ISO files using this program.

There is a portable version of this program

Its FREE, Its EASY.

I use this for mounting ISO images under Windows (free, "just works"):

Between this and Image Burn, all bases are covered.

Folder2Iso is a GUI of mkisofs. No need of installation , really small exe.It has dvddecrypter or imgburn which can burn cd or dvd for free so if you make an iso easily you can burn your movies on cd or dvd

I downloaded this utility, scanned with AVG2012 and Anti-malwarebytes - no threats

No install, stand-alone executable. Easy and Fast

Yet another free utility to burn CD's, DVD's, and create ISO files in Windows:

http://infrarecorder.org/

I use this utility on those rare occasions I'm running Windows. Simple to use, works quite well!

Oh, that's tempting. This computer came with infrarecorder & it works just fine. What to do....What to do? I'm pre-disposed towards Nero...I've already got the trial version, I've always liked them & I really appreciate how it installed. Plus, the "deluxe" version also includes video conversion from any format to any other format. I like having that stuff integrated in one supported package.

Thanks for the tip about infra!

On Linux we have a host of utilities to burn iso images, dvd's, etc... including some pretty powerful command line utilities like growisofs, mkisofs, etc. There may be Windows analogs of some of these.

Dammit, John...you keep making me wish I had my own, personal admin here. I LOVE those great *nix commands; make life a whole lot easier than "point and click". Maybe when I'm retired and have more time to become a good admin & all the stuff that now makes the clock run altogether too fast becomes second nature. But for now...I'm just a lowly Window user. Ah, well..somdeay!

Thanks!

Its like anything else, we go with what we are familiar with. Put me in front of an Windows system and I am lost.

Learning an OS is like learning an language: Just immerse yourself; aka Just install, and force yourself to use it.

Of course you're right, Corey, "The way to learn to program is to program."

It's the time Element. I'd rather have a hot soldering iron in the guts of BA. But I'm close to retirement, and then!!!

Why not do both. Run a virtual Linux or *nix machine along with your Windows machine. Or vice versa. This way you get the best of all worlds simultaneously.

Yep...when I've got more time.

I'm planning to experiment with it this week. I'll let you know how it goes. So far it sounds like it might be fairly easy and not too time consuming...

When I want to burn an ISO image, I just fire up Disk Utility.app, which comes with OS X
