They have been jolted in centuries.
It is an earthquake prone area known for centuries.
Yes i hope they do fine, buit building a home in such an area you also have to accept the consequences.

There were plans laid down years ago to build a safe but bland new residential area some way out from Christchurch city centre. Services were laid down and some access roads built but local people didn't want to live there. Now it looks as though there will be no choice, the new area being less subject to the serious liquefaction that destroyed many existing residential areas.

It was a fine city with good character and a centre small enough to walk round. I wonder what happened to one of the century-old brick buildings that already had steel bands strapped round it from past disturbances? Anyone been there before the 'quake?

Its kinda like building your house in a soup bowl, yet people still do. Lose my house once, 'oh shit', lose my house twice 'time to move', lose my house three times 'should have been smarter'.
