Don't think I've ever even heard of that happening before. Horrific is right.

Seems like there have been several NYC elevator accidents in recent years -- product of the bad economy?

I am afraid of elevators and escalators. I simply use the stairs.

Sounds like either a faulty door failsafe switch.

Yeah, me too. I got stuck on an escalator for three hours once when the power went out.

...They are stairs...I dont like them because I have a fear of getting a shoe lace or something caught. As for elevators, I got stuck in once..twice. Which is why I dont like them. Granted I was only stuck for a few minutes both times but was enough to freak me out.

It seems that when things go bad on an escalator, it turns out pretty gruesome.
The older I get, the more aware I am as I enter and exit them.
