The Feds (again) have seized 130 domains without due process...

Thank god we're safe from the world of fake sports jerseys. Great use of gov't resources.

Great to know we are wasting taxpayers money on crap like this. And lawmakers want to etch this practice in stone. Paradise would be a world without lawmakers.

Most of those domains are probably overseas. And since we invented DNS... :neener:

Alternative Internets, including alternative DNS servers. DNS is a matter of trust: Who do you put your trust in?

Alternative DNS. Otherwise the alternative is a government seizure warning.

Check out NameCoin. It's a DNS built on bitcoin technology.

looks interesting. Maybe round the holiday's I'll play around with it. I think stuff like this will become more and more nessesary as the government seems determined to break DNS,

The really stupid thing is: The government can only do it, because people are stupid. Just stop using American DNS servers.

More importantly:

Stop consuming media which is produced by affiliates of the MPAA and/or RIAA.

Don't buy. And don't pirate. Just don't be a part of it.

I use my own DNS server. it actually works better than Verizon's "broken" DNS servers which direct you to some web page as opposed to supplying the proper response as defined in the DNS protocol in the event a name does not resolve.

But, who is your parent DNS server? If it's located in the US, then it's subject to the whims of the government here.

Especially:

So, if it uses the ICANN root zones, then it's subject to whims.

Right now my parent DNS is based in the USA. But, can't I point it to a root DNS server outside the USA (other than ICANN) ? Any suggestions ? Wouldn't I need to use a different root zone file ?

ICANN is controlled by the US Department of Commerce.

So, yes, you would need another root zone file to use. There's no real alternative out there, just some startups (Like Namecoin, or OpenNIC).

Hmmm...Interesting. Guess I'll have to take a look at these and do some research. I just wantto be ready because it seems like the USA is hell bent on breaking DNS.
