Anybody here play around with any of the dark/alteranets out there? .Onions, I2P, Freenet, et al?
I just started playing with Freenet again (Been using Anonet for a while now). It's made leaps and bounds since the last time I messed with it. Lots more non-CP content on there than there was in the past. Email, NNTP, and a Twitter-like site (Called Sone).
If you are using any of them, what are you using them for, and which ones are you using?

Never touched them but Charter frowns upon their customers going there. I believe they track everything you do if you use their free security suite, F-Secure. While it is a good software package, the price of "free" with service really means that they keep track of what you're doing, downloading, watching. bandwidth and copyright was their main focus but now add special attention to what you're doing on darknet. They are complicit with law enforcement in most cases. They see me when I'm sleeping. they know when I'm awake. they know what kind of pron I take so be good for goodness sake.

Well, I wouldn't touch a security package from my ISP with a 30 foot pole :) And, I don't know if F-Secure runs on Linux, so I may not even have that option :)
The good news? Most of these are un-seeable by your ISP. And, nothing illegal about using alternanets. Many of them are built on top of VPN technologies. I'd suggest giving one of them a whirl, just to check it out.
Freenet has a lower bar-of-entry: Install a package, and start browsing. Tor comes next. Followed by I2P and Anonet (Both require specialized routing software and configuration in place).
Corey....come with me to the dark side....:shifty: ;)

Well, I'd suggest either I2P or Freenet to start out with. I2P is pretty easy, visit the link in my sig, and you'll find a bunch of information there, as well as the package downloads.
I'd also suggest going to freenetproject.org; and grab their package as well. It does tend to hog resources, so, while it's got some really cool features, it's fallen out of much use with myself
