Anybody know anything about these things? Is $250 a good price for one, assuming it's in working condition, as stated?

I thought it was way to cheap for a spectrum analyzer worth having, so I checked the Agilent web site and found the manuals. Sure enough, the 141T model number is JUST THE DISPLAY, the RF/IF deck may not be posted.

One thing worth noting: those old spectrum analyzers got a lot of use, and the display unit is often the first thing to go, so even if $250 gets you a complete instrument, you could have a lot of rehab to do.

Are you looking for an instrument to meet a specific need, or are you looking to acquire generic measurement capability?

The latter. But the price also includes the 8554B/8552B decks, "0-1200 MHz" range.

Sorry, should have looked more closely at the listing. :(

It's a good price, but for an old instrument, and if you're willing to spend time fixing it, you may get more grins out of building your own unit - there are several web sites showing how.

You can download a very nice set of manuals from the Agilent web site; you may want to have a look at them to get a better look at what you'd be buying.

BTW, the "gold standard" of older-vintage lab spectrum analyzers are the HP 8566/67/68 series, most notable the 8568B. These were first-rate instruments, but are still pricy on the used market, i.e. about $4k-5k, you may get lucky on eBay (hah!). Getting one of these would be worth hitting someone over the head with and using their momentary confusion to escape with the prize. :)

Happy shopping!

Have you contacted the guy about a demo? That'll pretty much say it all.
