Looks like Denver is headed for a kickass first winter storm; NWS is predicting 6-10 inches of snow tonight and 4-8 tomorrow. Wet stuff and many of the trees here are still "changing color." Lots of tree damage predicted.

Summer's over, and I'll miss it.

*sigh* I just came home in the rain, praying it wouldn't turn to ice & snow before I got here. Bought some candles and some trail mix & fruit just in case I'm stuck here without power tomorrow.

Did I mention.. sigh?

No shit...

Queued a work-at-home day for tomorrow just in case. But damn... been a fun ride, eh?

Queued a work-at-home day for tomorrow just in case. But damn... been a fun ride, eh?Suppose so, we were told we could work at home too tomorrow if we wanted.. the problem is.. 70 employees, 25 VPN licenses. I bet we don't fill up despite the vast majority of people supposedly "working from home". ;)

Mostly, I could do it all from home. Have better equipment here and a faster pipe. I'd miss my work friends though. We bust ass for the most part, but there's nothing like throwing ball with the work dog in he morning. Seriously, that dog makes going to work worthwhile.

Work dog? Do you just have one? We have like 5 or 6.. every day, sometimes more. Its a riot -- everyone keeps treats in their desk, it's like doggy Halloween every day, they wander from desk to desk waiting patiently for their treat. I've found since moving to Denver that well behaved dogs are welcome in most work places. Unusual, but awesome. :)

Waaaaa?

I'm at work, and depending on how this goes, I might have to keep working past my 11PM regular shift. :irked:
Just a working man in my prime, cleaning cameras. I'm listening to 'ol Van Morrison right now!

Glad I didn't repair the low band(s) antenna system yet, it might have gotten trashed. Wet snow breaks shit.

Makes me doubly glad I didn't have to go out on the road in an 18-wheeler after all. I hate chaining one of those bastards up to get it over Cabbage or Donner; it seems to take forever.

What do the chainers on I-80 charge for a rig? I know the going rate when I lived in Truckee was $40 for a car.

Dunno if its even legal for the chainers to touch a big rig...DOT and liability makes.me think.so...
Nevertheless, if its bad enough to.chain up, its bad enough to tell dispatch to go fuck themselves, Im parking it!

(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fYtJIFVxQXY)I came outta Salt Lick one morning in heavy snow (all night too) 35 mph right behind the snow plow southbound on I-15 in my little Toyota Tercel without snow tires.
Been over Monida with same car many times in snow and strong cross wind.
Don't use snow tires here either.

NXServer or OpenVPN; or both.

I don't know, I always did it myself. As a matter of fact, I don't recall ever even seeing someone offer to chain up a big rig.

There is something to be said for that and when it got really bad that's what I'd do. But when the storm had passed and weather was clear but the road still icy, well, I was paid by the mile so I wasn't making any money sitting in a truck stop.

NXServer or OpenVPN; or both.Preaching to the choir. I really wish we could at least setup OpenVPN for the IT-related folks, but we have very specific security requirements that OpenVPN can't meet.

Hm... I figured since it's good enough for the IRS, it'd be good enough for most Enterprise systems. But, I feel ya. There is something about open-source that scares executives away at my employer too.

We're actually a very open source shop. But they paid a fortune for our network infrastructure and it's also a lot easier to support (the non technical users). I use OpenVPN in all my personal projects, it's great.

Hopefully I still have trees at the house. Jeff, a $5 wax job doesn't do crap for your edges.

I've been experimenting with TeamViewer remote access software these past few weeks.
VPN mode that is pretty tight and easy to setup, free for non-commercial use.

Pretty interesting compared to good 'ol VNC, which I still like.

Trying to get the remote Flex3000 thing worked out.
VOIP has a too much latency, so far. Hardly works.

But I CAN do digital modes the way it is setup now fairly well.
It's so cool to be able to see the Panadapter remotely.

Screen is damn small on the iPhone, but it works there too...

It's baaaack. Probably not as heavy as last week, but it's coming down good out there right now. Still not sticking to the roads yet, but we have another 10/15 degrees to go..

Lovely 17 degrees in daytime and 10 C at night.
Having no idea what that snow thingy is what you all are yapping on about ;)

Might change fast here though, last year i already shovelled 20" of the stuff by this time...:shock:

If i have a say in it, these temps can last till spring and go up from there, meaning my M&S tyres would have had no use in snow, but that's fine with me...
