Those of you that don't know about Penzey's are really missing out. You won't believe the difference between the 10 year old junk on the grocery store shelf and what you get from these folks. Pricey, but your taste buds will appreciate it.

I try to grow most of the herbs I use, but this looks like a great source for the hard-to-grow ones :) Thanks!

There was this great spice store that I used to go to on the corner of 6th street and 1st ave in Manhattan/. Actually he was an Indian/Pakistani grocery that sold everything from incense and candles to virtually every spice imaginable. He also used to sell in bulk, so if you need a lot of a particular spice you could get them in anything ranging from large jars to large sacks. Not sure if they are still there anymore. Gotta check one day.

Anyway's thanks for the link. Looks like they got some good stuff.

Wonder if you're talking about a shop called, I think, Angelina's. I think that one was at 1st and 8th...but it could been 6th, too. Had all sorts of herbs in bulk that you bought by weight. Also had a library where you could look up what herbs you wanted/needed. The guy behind the counter was named (and I"m spelling it phonetically) Collie-pony. Don't think I'm even close to the real spelling....but that's how it's said. Didn't find anything on the web about it, also didn't see in on Google Earth. Best bet is it's long gone...but it'd be fun to go down as see what's there now.

There was an Angelina's Herbs in Madison Wis. Last time I saw it was 2003. Can't find them on the web anymore.
The Feds think all of these herb places are all trying to sell marijuana.

Probably worse than that. We can't have people finding organic, herbal remedies for cheap when there's a super-expensive prescription drug (with a long, long list of side-effects) now, can we? The pharmaceuticals would go broke!

Yes and no. All drugs, including herbs, have potential side effects (some severe!!) . Many of the pharmaceutical products available are excellent at treating a wide range of ailments effectively and with minimal side effects. In general many of todays modern drugs are far better at treating illnesses with far less side effects and with a far greater margin of safety than the drugs of yesterday. Of course there are exceptions. Nonetheless, one of the biggest expenses in pharmaceutical industry is research and development and extensive testing for FDA approval.

The idea that herbal remedies are always a viable alternative to modern pharmaceuticals is false. In some instances they may be but, in far more instances they are not.

Get rid of all advertising for prescription drugs.

Get rid of legal drug dealers buying lunch for an entire doctor's office; and later in the evening getting all the docs good and drunk, while paying for their steak + lobster dinners.

Yes, this happens. Weekly at many offices.

Some pharma have a "quota": If a practice writes X number of scripts for a drug; they "treat" the doc to a 5-star dinner.

Those pricks want reduced regulation, give 'em NO PRESCRIPTIONS, and NO CONTROLLED SUBSTANCES.

The Fed's frown heavily on this. The regulations on sales people are getting tougher every day.

How tough? Tough enough?

Criminal background checks, vaccination records, signed agreements that you will not bring or offer anything to a hospital employee or doctor (just a couple of things on the list). If caught doing it, your company will get the BANHAMMER from the hospital and the employee will be fired.

Apparently not very much, though; as it's very widespread, and common.

About the only new "rule" I saw in the past 7 years, was the reps used to just wine and dine the docs. Now, they have to wine and dine the entire office.

Get rid of all advertising for prescription drugs.

I agree to an extent. The marketing campaign is abusive, i.e. "Ask your doctor about Meta-Foobar-A-Sil". Then patients come in demanding "Metafoobarasil" and get pissed at the doc if he doesn't write a script for it. However, a certain degree of direct patient markjeting isn't the worst thing.

Many of these seminars are invaluable inb explaining to doctors the benefits and contraindications of a particular pharmaceutical product. I have attended a couple seminars when I was working for a pharmaceutical company. They conveyed some very important info and potentially life saving info at these meetings. A lot of work, R&D, extensive testing and reporting along with intense quality control and quality ingredients goes into producing and selling pharmaceutical products. And, millions of people world wide owe their lives and well being to many of these products.

True, there are some negative practices, but, all in all we benefit highly from the hard, labour and intensive work done by the pharmaceutical industry.

You left out Continuing Education hours that all medical staff have to get yearly to maintain their licenses. The big Pharms foot the bill to an extent.

Only some of us benefit from it... Many of us are affected adversely by the "hard, labour and intensive work" done by the pharmaceutical industry.
