Has anyone here have experience with setup and boot from Compact Flash memory?

I am starting to embark on a project which will boot the OS from CF memory, heard it can be done, and will be soon to try to do this.

I am restricted to space, where a 2.5" laptop size hard drive is sitting in a PMC slot on an embedded processor board. The CF card reader has to be a 44 pin IDE interface (to match the HD to be replaced), will be mounted on a non-conducting board platform, with mounting holes same as the hard drive. The CF adapter board will be mounted on this platform. The CF adapter will be positioned to allow easy access through the PMC card access.

This may be a good solution for older systems where 32 GB max hard drives are next to impossible to find.

From what I am reading, a CF memory in the IDE adapter can be formatted like a real hard drive.

I've set up a few systems to do that, using the IDE adapter. No issues. It's pretty fast too.
