We got an abrupt cold snap. 2 days ago it was sweltering tee shirt and air conditioner weather. Today it is chilly (got down to the 40's last night) and many heating systems switched on for the first time since last season. Since many of the systems were not cleaned and prepped for the winter yet there was an assortment of problems. A house down the block from me apparently had a smoke condition from a boiler/chimney fire which prompted the need for a hydrant to be opened which gave us some of the rustiest water I have seen in ages. I shut down the water intake to my boiler and any filtration devices to try and keep them from getting clogged with rust. It seems to be clearing up. But its funny when you flush the toilet and it looks filthier than before.

That's what happens with an ancient watert supply.

Oh hush up. It could be worse, if you lived a little farther north in Ballston Spa every time you turn on a faucet it smells like somebody farted. Look on the bright side, iron is good for the blood so think of it as free Geritol.
