Being the type whose eyes really, reallly burn and tear when I chop onions, sometime ago I got this Williams-Sonoma chopper (http://www.williams-sonoma.com/products/5471628/?catalogId=43&bnrid=3180501&cm_ven=Shopping&cm_cat=Froogle&cm_pla=Cooks_Tools&cm_ite=5471628).
I'm happy to say that after lots and lots of use chopping onions (I hand chop everything else), it's holding up perfectly. It'll chop a half an onion in one swipe, cleans easily in the dishwasher, and show no signs of breaking. AND, unusual for Williams-Sonoma, one doesn't have to give up one's first-born to own one.
Must be made very strong. Chopping a big Vidalia onion isn't a "gentle press" on the thingie. I gotta bang it with my fist.

... I gotta bang it with my fist.
I think I can handle that. I do have experience there.
Use your shoe instead. It's easier on your hands and it worked for Kruschev.

Fortunately, the street vendor selling Slap Chops disappeared before my temptation to buy one took over. I'm glad. Didn't really want to think about Vince's nuts everytime I chopped onions.

I hear that if you flatten them with a mallet and batter them, deep fried, oh wait, That's Moose Fritters!
