A guy I used to work with from Turkey loved ouzo. Stuff is weird. It is a clear drink, and if you put an ice cube in it, it turns milky.

Oh, it must be like absinthe. You put water in it and it turns from clear green to milky whitish-green.

Somebody told me absinthe and ouzo are supposed to have opium in them. I don't believe that is true at all. Perhaps some have put their own opium in it or, had them together.

This is what I have seen anyway. I remember it being clear. I see BSO did this before me. Glad to know there are others who know at least as much about alcoholic beverages as what I do.

I was trying to brag that I am not the only one who knew about ouzo. To be honest, about 80% of what I know about alcoholic beverages is directly related to my job.

It seems to be a liquor like anisette, but stronger. Absinthe is a spiced liquor. As was Dr. Barton's patent cough remedy of alcohol, opium, and licorice.
