It seems that the U.S. has had an unprecedented number of weather disasters this year. Over the past couple of days, I've read a number articles about this topic and they've all listed last winter's blizzards, the tornadoes this past spring, ongoing drought in Texas, Hurricane Irene, the recent earthquake on the East Coast...

Uh, say what?? Ladies and gentlemen of the press, let me explain something to you: An earthquake is not weather!

Sheesh.

It is when you hire newscasters for their looks and not for their intellect.

Well, we had the blizzard just after Christmas here with the second biggest snowfall ever. More recently we've been affected by the earthquake in VA and Hurricane Irene made landfall in Coney Island, Brooklyn. Oddly enough, the city fared pretty good as far as Irene was concerned. If you can think of NYC as the hole in a doughnut and the surrounding areas of the metropolitan area as the dough of the doughnut, then you have a pretty decent idea of how the damage would look on a map. A week later, there are still areas upstate that are cut off and they got the tropical storm, unlike here in the city where we got the F1 Hurricane. BTW, had to evacuate last Saturday. Was in a Hurricane Shelter for 36 hours. So if this affected you similarly, I can tell you I have a good idea how it feels. It wasn't all bad. I met a guitarist for Alabama and some other interesting people there. Even had a Kiwi (New Zealander) who was passing through who ended up there. At least until Mutt and Jeff showed up. He got a look at them and you could see the "I'm outta here." look flash across his face.

I sometimes wonder if people bother to read an entire thread before posting.

Well, it was an F1 hurricane on the Fujita scale. Then earlier this spring there were a lot of Category 3 and 4 tornado's. Not to mention Irene was packed full of Category 4 and 5 tornado's.

In NJ we have a saying; if you don't like the weather just wait 10 minutes.

Well, I could've been an actor, but I wound up here
I just have to look good, I don't have to be clear
The weather's getting queer
And I am clueless

We got the bubbleheaded bleach-blonde, comes on at 5
She can tell you about the hurricane with a gleam in her eye
It's interesting when people fly
