Today's propagation report says that the sunspot number is 0, yet just now I was able to work an Italian station, then European Russia on 20m. That's hard to do with 100 watts into a G5RV Jr. from the Left Coast.

Sunspot numbers are highly over rated ;)

During the last years with the lull in sunspot numbers i always could work the world, it just took a bit more effort, but even with my run of the mill antenna setup on the edge of the city 160 - 10 was doable, sporadic E on 10/12 6 meters etc.
That is why we have so many bands which each have their own propagation and conditions.

Looks like your G5RV does what iit is supposed to do ;)

Yep....I've had some days in the mobile where I could work all of Europe when there were no sunspots.

I totally agree with you, Cor, :"Sunspot numbers are highly over rated "

20 and 17 open today when i loistenned, PY on 17, didn't work him, but 100 watt stations from Europe did, too easy.

15 and up, dead as a doornail.
6 wasteland, but just last week some strong propagation to the south of Europe, made some qso's.

Lots of static the last days. lots of thunderstorms over Europe... yuck..

For sure, for sure...

It was pretty busy on Field Day....but wierd. Mostly NE regional signals. WTF?

20 was the same.

I think it's because a lot of the "usual crowd" on 40, 20 and 10 meandered over to 15 and 30.

I don't know where you get your information from - but you are full of poop.

The number for yesterday for sunspots was 81, and I counted 4 large sun spots about 1/16th the size of the sun - which is a huge event = considering the difference in size between the earth and the sun.

The diameter of the Sun is 1,392,000 km, while the equatorial diameter of the Earth is 12,756 km. Compared to the Earth the Sun is HUGE.

The ratio of the Sun's radius to the Earth's radius is

1,392,000/12756 = 109.1
This means the ratio of their volumes is 109.1 x 109.1 x 109.1, which is about 1,300,000,and that means that 1,300,000 Earths should fit inside the Sun.

If the earth stayed as solid balls - you could probably fit 960,000 earths into the sun.
Todays number is 75!

Here is the web site that I use to predict propagation.

Good opening on 11M at the moment into Mexico - all Sporadic E.

Of course, 10 is dead. :wall:

The most probably explanation.

Noticed the error in the sunspot report by the OP, wondered why his (presumed) reporting website was in error.

I use http://www.solarham.com/

Why was it was necessary to fling feces to make a point... counting coup, or something?

Oh, yea... there's an instrumental rock song for that. :bbh:

As it turns out, what I was quoting was ARRL's report from last week, not the current one so it is my bad.

There's a single, compound word to describe that sort of person but I'm not going to use it here. Suffice to say that ol' Jerry is now on "ignore."
