You can't find some particular boat anchor that you've had your heart set on for the last 25 years, here's why.

Right.

For Fifties-era technology. I can think of a lot better radios into which to sink that much money.

$6.4K is a steal. They have been going for almost twice that much.

75S-3C +32S-3A + KWM-2A + 312-B5 + 62S-1 + 51S-1 would do it for me.

DAYUM!

So, the "farm thing", what was that, a Ham Radio Bed-n-breakfast? I wonder how much per night?

So far it doesn't cost anything. But it's a little like the Hotel California. Instead of checking out, you slowly QSB to S-0, go QRT, then SK to become a hank at QRZ to spend eternity trying to become a minion that is more equal than most.

Talk about HELL.

There's no cure for BA collecting. Once you get the bug, it's there for life.

And it seems to take on a life of it's own. Once people hear that you're interested in old equipment, they even start giving it to you. That's happened to me since I acquired my Drake twins.

For Fifties-era technology. I can think of a lot better radios into which to sink that much money.Well, as a reformed Hallicrafter collector... so can I.

But those, along with the DD1 Dual Diversity radio, are so rare, with so few remaining working examples, that the collectors have driven the price sky high.

Uh-oh....don't know how to tactfully say this....

The fact that you got that Hallicrafters up and working so quickly and that you enthusiastically listened to a ballgame on it are both serious symptoms of the disease. You might be beyond the point of no return. The good news is the support of all your fellow sufferers of the disease.

Looks great! Enjoy! Hope you get the parts and the time to re-cap it before something bad happens.

Now I understand what Joe WB6ACU had in mind.

And she said ’we are all just prisoners here, of our own device’
And in the master’s chambers,
They gathered for the feast
The stab it with their steely knives,
But they just can’t kill the beast...

...You can checkout any time you like,
But you can never leave!

I'm afraid you're right. Next thing you know, I'll be looking for an SX-88 full of black widows.

Funny thing about that—I pulled the bottom panel off it to assess what might be needed and found that all the wax paper caps have already been replaced with shiny new mylar-dipped ones.

BTW...if you hear Vladimir Posner on Radio Moscow -- it's 1980 all over again.
