One place got over 10 inches of rain and the temperature never broke 70...

Heavy rain and flooding (http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/08/14/sunday-weather-bouts-of-rain-heavy-at-times/) Sunday has caused power outages, train service disruptions and has stranded motorists throughout the area. So much rain has fallen that New York City set a record for rainfall on Sunday.John F. Kennedy International Airport reported 7.72 inches Sunday night — the most ever recorded there in a single day. The driving rain broke the previous record of 6.3 inches, set in 1983, the National Weather Service said.
The highest total regionally was recorded at Lido Beach in Nassau County — 10.87 inches of rain by dusk.

It's amazing that the subways even ran on Sunday. Oddly enough, it wasn't the tunnels that were the problem for the most part, the elevated lines (especially by the Atlantic Ocean) fared worse.

Rainfall record broken Sunday. (http://newyork.cbslocal.com/2011/08/14/heavy-rains-flood-streets-trap-cars-in-parts-of-nyc-and-long-island/)

It was raining into the evening, so the 7.6 inches was probably even higher by midnight. (http://online.wsj.com/article/AP30a9a34f2f9a4dae826c1c62307392fc.html)

Yeah, but since Gotham is actually Babylon gawd's aim was not off, he was intending to drown the vermin :-( I lost the sarcasm button as well as my zed passy there is someone there who thinks the vermin are all on our favorite Island. That is way too much rain for one day.

Dirty old man.

Disingenuous, too. He's pretending that he doesn't know that his reputation as "Albi 'The Knockwurst' Schramm" has gotten around.

Well, that's exactly what rudy and mike have been working so diligently to eliminate -- the Babylon aspects of Gotham. They've done a damn good job of it too. Most of Manhatten is as Babylon-like as your average suburban shopping mall.

Most of Manhatten is as Babylon-like as your average suburban shopping mall.I was at one of the local suburban shopping mall that is designed to look like a downtown. No one sees the humor in that but me i guess. They do have a modern digital cinema with 2-3D IMAX screens. The last time I was there (last month) I witnessed some lady give a man money (I presume)in exchange for a small package that slipped easily into a pocket. The lady hopped into one of these .

Most folks where I live drive pick up trucks.

The lady was just picking up some communion wafers for a sick relative and made a donation to the church.
