Lucille Ball was born 100 years ago today. Before she made that classic tv show with her husband Desi Arnez, she had appeared in almost 50 movies. I doubt if her comedic genius will be equaled.

Of course, we'll never know how funny this Lucy (http://www.talkorigins.org/faqs/homs/lucy.html) was:

But guess which Lucy had a bigger impact on the human race?

And how many dames can get away with smoking on-screen these days?

We look back at Lucy, Vivien, 'Reeecky' and the whole cast with a bit of a chuckle...thinking how simplistic those times (and the shows' plots) were - when in reality they would probably be laughing at us.

My favorite scene was her & Harpo Marx recreated a scene Harpo did with his brother Groucho from the old movie Duck Soup.

Lucille Ball also had several shows on the radio in the 40's and 50's that were/are funny as hell. My Favorite Husband comes to mind. She was a very talented lady.

The lady has more class in her pinky that the likes of Lohan, Madonna et al have in their entire body.

Too vanilla for a hedonistic world, however.

Too vanilla for a hedonistic world, however.

Hardly.
Too bright and thoughtful for a world with little imagination.
It's a different world. You gotta spell it out for them and plant the scene with pictures.
Sad, that.

Sad, that.Remember sitting around the radio at the feed and seed, staring at the radio while the voices boomed out of it?

Actually, yes. I spent a fair amount of time there. But I was in Mississippi then, and we had TV, but the good stuff came on later in the evening.
That's really not a fair question to ask of someone enamored with radio from birth. Almost every radio signal had my complete attention until I determined its origin.
Fair answer?

Well, I was thinking more the Walton's era but yes, we had TV also. In 1967 it was Buffalo NY. 10 VHF channels back then was big time. 1968 Greenville SC, whopping total of 3 VHF channels.
OK, fair answer but I missed where I was giving you grief. Enamored since birth?
I took apart steel toys at age 3.

Living during the Walton's era would make me, what...90 or something? You could have given me a clue. I'm pretty sharp, no telling where in humor town that could have gone.
Come on Charles... Sound is my thing. Read how I twist words, phrases and spellings. I could really care less about TV. I'm only here because I really love radio, sound, and unusually smart, eccentric people.

Enamored since birth is actually an understatement. I tore my toys up too. Never the radio though; it was my Zeus.

on edit: Forgot to say, Love ya' bro! True dat.

Several cable channels are cranking out Lucy marathons, the TV show, movies and everything Lucy... YYYAAAaaa! I have nothing against an actress who had more talent in her little finger than all of today's Hollywood but HAAAAALLLLP, I'll turn the TV back on when it appears safe to come out of the Bunker.
