Did the players vote to reconstitute their union? That was part of the deal; if they don't, then the whole thing is null and void and they're back to square one.

And people tell me I'M optomistic.

All of this is contingent on one thing, and one thing only. That we don't fall into 3rd World Status should we default.

Zzzzzz......

Yeah.
Even though I do have reason to rejoice. The XYL is a rabid, veins in her teeth, football fan. I was becoming concerned about the possible lack of distraction and how it was going to effect my weekends.
This news means I'm basically free from the bondage of intense weekend honey-do servitude.
Go teams!

What, with all that money at stake, you didn't think they'd settle?

You'd think the same thing about the GOP... Collecting wealth for the sake of wealth.

Hold your horses. The players still have to approve the 10 year contract. No approval, back to square one.

You'll hear no more from the players until next week. They have decided to cease comment while the family of Patriot's owner Robert Kraft mourns the loss of Myra, his wife.

After differences were settled and language was revised over the weekend, it appears the NFL finally has a labor deal that both sides can agree on.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees reportedly sent an email to teammates over the weekend saying that a deal would likely be announced Monday.

The NFL Players Association's executive committee, according to a person from the NFLPA with knowledge of the talks, is expected to meet today and recommend approval of the 10-year labor deal, which would be the longest in league history, as well the global settlement of legal cases.

I certainly hope so. This country needs a good blood sport. Thumbs down, boys, thumbs down.

Last season start of Nascar they made a rules change that allowed for 'touching paint.' Not a Nascar fan but being where I am you can't go anywhere without hearing people withing earshot talking about it. Apparently this new rule change turned the races into an even bigger spectacle than before with more Jerry Springerish infighting between the drivers. Not sure but I think the rule was changed back as it also causes recklessness and excessive accidents.

(Back to NFL) One the the things I understand about the lock out was that the owners not only wanted more games per week but a rougher playing field. I'm assuming this meant doing away with some of the rules put in place over the years for player safety in an attempt to attract more fans for the "blood factor."

Someone correct me if I'm not on the right page.

Yawn...

I don't care. If the NFL didn't play this year, we'd have a case for cutting our welfare checks being made out to a millionaire here in Buffalo.

Even if there was a lockout, good ole Ralph Wilson would still complain about how poor he is, and how he needs $50 million in welfare checks annually.
