View Full Version : I Think I'm Going To Sell Out

I've struggled financially for most of my life and I'm tired of it. Having no money is tiresome, so I think I'll sell my soul (figuratively speaking) to someone or something that will ensure that I have an ample supply of it from now on.

What do you think would be my best legal bet for raking in some big money, ASAP?

Legally? That rules out drugs.
So I guess you'll have to sell your soul and go into politics.

Not to take the subject in a overly serious direction, but I'm 30 years old.. and I'm proud to say I've sold out.

After 15 years of struggling, scratching, and worrying.. I finally have become the corporate whore my mother always hoped I'd become. I have great benefits, an above market salary, and all the free soft drinks I can chug down in a day. I have rolled over and said "this is the best I can do" and I'm happier for it. American dream? 3 kids, a house, and the same job for 35 years? Hell, the American dream is having a slightly above average job where you can rise to the level of chief shit shoveller -- and I get to pay a ridiculous amount of state and federal income taxes for my pleasure. God bless Americuh, I tell you what..

First question:

What do you love to do? Not necessarily "work", but period: What do you love to do.
Figure out a way to make money from it.

ie, I love tinkering with computers. So, I figured the best way to make money from it was start doing side work. Now, I have a full-time consultant gig, so I get to play with new things all the time. My full time corporate job pays me well enough on it's own.

But, I've seriously considered other options: Opening a bicycle shop. Starting an IT services workers co-op. et al

I seriously wouldn't "sell out", because there is more to happiness than money. Doing what you love, and as long as you aren't starving; you'll be well onto a happy life (IMO). If I got canned from my full-time position, and the economy really dinged my consultancy, I'd probably open the bicycle shop.

I sold out and I didnt all at the same time. Where as I work for GM I also have my own business, two in fact. Well 1+ a hobby that makes money I guess. Neither of the two make me loads of money but if ever I lost my job they would keep me afloat until I found another. Though one did almost get me a fine when I started it at 16 y/o because I wasnt doing it in a legal manner lol. Lets just say when you host games you need to host ones that allow for it. :D

I cannot figure out a way to get someone to pay me for getting stoned, and laughing at silly shit I hear serious people say. I did produce an underground cable tv (not public access) where the panel, and audience are openly slamming shots, and passing the bong debating exsistential jibber jabber until the laughter bagan. The movie Putney Swope was playing on a monitor in the background. The copyright violations were too many to mention. It had bootleg cartoons, and stolen pop art. I would probably get sued if the owners of the tv production company ever figure out who let us in the back door one Saturday night.

Most folks would really be surprised about how large the market for so-called "reality" (amateur) pr0n actually is.

One can watch the likes of Jesse Jane force her lines (or Peter North's...ummm...) so many times before the Plastic Fantastic sh!t gets downright boring. Producers know this and have capitalized on it.

As a friend of mine once said, "No pot so crooked there ain't a lid to fit it somewhere!"

Okay so they are not zombies either but the point is that sometimes what you love to do isnt feasible as a work opportunity.

You do realize that as a caddy for Woods, Mr. Williams earned millions! I wouldn't call that a wasted life would you ? lets see he gets to walk around some of the worlds most famous and prestigious golf courses and rub noses with the rich and famous. And all he's got to do is carry a bag of clubs, fend off the media and the fans. And in the process he gets to make a few million...

Hmm I don't know about you but his job sounds like a hell of a lot more fun then sweating it out in rush hour traffic waiting to get to work so you can push a pencil 80 hours a week hoping that someday you might be able to save enough for a down payment on a piece of crap cookie cutter house...
