So what is the big attraction to moving to a warmer climate? Seems to me from South Carolina to Florida you guys spend as much time indoors in A/C during the summer as everybody above the Mason-Dixon line does in heat during the winter :)

30 degrees ?? That's not cold. Thats mild. Most of the time it will still rain at that temp. Cold is at least <20 deg F and even 0, -10, -20, -40 below.

So far this summer has been very mild. Highs in the upper 70's to low 80's. Nights in the low 60's. Very low humidity. I remember when we used to get hot summers around here. Everyday in the 90's, high humidity, and nightime lows in the 80's with extreme humidity. Haven't had that kind of weather round here on a regular basis in three or 4 years.

Last 4 years summer comes in march and reverts to autumn in june/july....
March through may we had exceptionally warm weather, sun alll day, shortage in rainfall more as 6 inches.
June came and we (again) went to rain, lower as noormal temperatures.
Weird...
Last 2 years we also saw lots of snow early on and large quantities, still the average temps over the year were higher as the long term average.
Germany, U.K. saw the same, looks like the change in path of the jetstream over longer periods caused the snowfall, and wetter winters and change in the summer.
Tooearly to tell, but it sure is weird...

Thats why you live near the North Pole and I chose half way between the North Pole and the hot south :)

We generally only get a decorative snow down here. I bought a snow plow blade for my lawn tractor. I've only had to use it once in 15 years.

Hah. You are in the mild zone. Last winter we had mountains of snow piled high for weeks on end. And ice everywhere. To walk anywhere you had to walk in the middle of the road and watch carefully for traffic and be ready to step to the side (if there was any side to step to) to let the traffic pass and then resume your walk. Not to mention walking carefully to avoid going down on the ice and running the snowthrower over a dozen times to clear a path, walking at night with that animalistic bitter northwest wind and every so often grabbing my olf faithful Jone-E hand warmer to warm up my numb , cold fingers. Not to mention walking through a driving blizzard at night with wind and blowing snow hitting me head on/

And guess what... I loved every bloody minute of it. ;)

We had to get silo tank and pump water 24-4 out of the river. most days were over 100 degrees by 9 am. Everything that was wet, Your mouth, Nose, Lips were so chapped and bleeding it was not good. Yep 88 was one mother of a summer.

I think that in many ways hot weather can be more brutal than cold weather. Even outdoors on the most bitter cold days and nights one can always find a way to protect themselves from freezing and even manage some reasonable comfort...if you take the proper steps, i.e. layered dry clothing, insulation, protection from wind, campfire, etc. Hot weather on the other hand can be murder (literally). Unless you have an air conditioned room, beach, lake, or pool, or a place to get shade and stay hydrated, there is no escaping the blazing heat.

I remember getting a mild touch of heat stroke one day and , it is not a pleasant feeling, that is for sure.

In some ways I am enjoying this heat. I do like extremes and rough weather. if I didn't have air conditioning I probably wouldn't like it so much.

If however, i had to chose between extreme heat and extreme cold I think I'd take extreme cold. I find it a lot easier to fuind ways to warm up than ways to cool down.

I have no problem with out normal winters, some frost, a flurry of snow, and in 2 months it's done.
The last winter started in october, with 2 feet of snow, and kept on going till end january...
That would have been a nice testing ground for the new M&S tyres...

Even when it's cold and raining i don't have the heating on, still 22 C in the house with a few windows cracked open slightly.
Isolation helps... not against the rain though...

Looks to become better in the end of the next week though...
