For me a "key" often meant "touching the ends of 2 wires together".

Well, I built my first CW key. Working on learning Morse Code now.. Let the fun begin. I'll upload a picture of the key later tonight after I get off work.

Fastener and Nut shops have a wide selection of parts. Mom and Pop Ace hardware is a good place to look too.
Ever try to make a paddle out of the end of the cord that goes into a grounded outlet?

My first key was a piece of a tin coffee can and two tacks on a piece of plywood.

Also made a bug out of a coping saw blade, two strips from a tin coffee can, a piece of plywood and some binding posts. Damn thing wroked pretty well.

First on-air contacts were made using a relay that cathode-keyed my Glove Chief. Yep...learned pretty quickly not to get my finger(s) across the terminals!
