The Padres just came off a series with the Twins (32-40), who swept them 3-0. So, what do they do next? They take a series with Boston, one of the best teams in baseball, 2-1.

Go figure.

Yeah , but at the end of the season the cream always rises to the top.

Agreed, and that is another reason I prefer baseball to football—the best team always prevails in the end. As anyone who follows sports knows, on a given day, any team can beat any other so deciding a championship with a single game does not truly pick the best of the best.

Any true Patriotic football fan will tell you to your face that Baseball is a sissy sport developed by pansy socialists to undermine America's power on the world stage.

Which is exactly why I think it's just fabulous, sweetie.

America needs a new team. Pink and White stripped, Mice!
Go Mice!
Football is also anti union and that's always good for the Patriots among us!
Football has a bigger dick that Baseball. Well, of course they do. Baseball only has a vagina.

Although this is a perfect opening for a link to George Carlin's classic Baseball & Football routine...

As of this morning, 23 June 2011:

The Pittsburgh Pirates are at .500 (37/37)and 3 games out of first place.
The Washington Nationals are at .500 (37/37), 9 1/2 games out of first place.
(My boy insists I also mention this; please, someone buy some tickets from him!)

This may be a sign of the upcoming Apocalypse.

But there is hope in Pittsburgh. And people are actually going to the games... the Red Sox are in town over the weekend, and all three games are already sell-outs save for some Standing Room Only tickets. The Pirates had over 33,000 in attendance Tuesday night. A midweek game that last year might have drawn 10,000... might... 33,000+... and they won!

On a lighter note, my son put together a "US Japan Night" for the Nats last night. They added an interesting related twist to the President's Race. http://blog.letteddywin.com/2011/06/22/nationals-presidents-race-samurai/

Sissy sport? Yea, sure. In no other sport do they play with objects that can REALLY fuck you up in normal play and the players play with little or no protection. Ask Herb Score or Rico Petrocelli about that.

Baseball has a BIG BAT. Football only has tight ends and wide receivers. And the main guy spends most of the time with his hands in someone else's crotch.

In baseball it's in their own crotch! ;)

The pitcher is always staring at the catchers crotch looking for signs on how the catcher want it pitched to him.

They should have taken 2 out of 3, but they're young and still making mistakes, but they're learning.

The Staten Island Yanks and Brooklyn Cyclones have just started their A ball short season. Can't afford the high price MLB teams either, but this is not bad baseball and the price ain't bad.

Gotta correct myself. It wasn't Rico, but Tony Conigliaro who got fucked up on a pitch. Apologies to Mr. Conigliaro on that.

It just could be that the fact that the Staten Island Yanks moved out of Oneonta is the real reason the Yanks haven't done shit since '91. Yep...before that team was in that fancy-pants stadium on Staten Island, they played in a friggin' WONDERFUL minor league stadium in Oneonta, and that's where Bernie, Andy, Jorge came from...and pretty much where the awesomeness of the Yanks in the late 90's came from.

And here's something that backs that up.

When the yanks moved out to go fancy-pants, the Tigers moved in. Saw the Oneonta Tigers play twice in '02 - and Grandy was their CF. While I watched, I wondered if the Yank's magic would wear off on the Tigers, AND IT DID!!! The Tigers have been contenders since '06. But now, they too have abandoned that great minor league city and stadium for the $$$$ in Norwich, CT, so maybe their current goodness is going to dissapate, too.

Oh, but that's a great place to watch good, old time, American Baseball. It's a comfortable, small stadium where the players have to walk through the crowd to get to the locker room. Nice and intimate and very, very supportive of the team. Now, it sits silent, waiting for the next team to realize that, in minor league ball, especially in the class A short season league, it's not $$$$ that matters...it's something else that's intangible that the $$$$$ assholes can't understand.

Look up Herb Score (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Herb_Score) or Tony Conigliaro (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tony_Conigliaro). What footballer ever suffered the kind of injuries they sustained?

OK....and that just proves how much tougher the players are today! No way. Back in the day throwing at a batter's head was business as usual. And, pitchers were expected to pitch the entire game. And , they had to wear those heavy wool uniforms.

And we haven't even mentioned Ty Cobb!

(BTW...Cobb Co., GA is named after him.)

And, pitchers were expected to pitch the entire game.

For example...

In the '68 World series, both Bob Gibson and Mickey Lolich started 3 games. Lolich was 3-0, and Gibson was 2-1. ALL SIX starts were complete games.

Also, that year when Denny McLain won 31 games, he had 28 complete games in 41 starts.
