Required for admission to a few concerts back then. Not really required, but they were mighty handy and appreciated.

Question...I know that they're also called Bota Bags....but I think I recall another term for "wineskin" but can't place it. Anyone?

Not anymore. Very popular to carry libations for skiers back in the day.

When I used to follow the dead they were good for carrying dope.

No worries, it's self-limiting. The drool will short out your keyboard.

I remember hanging with the dead and blowing bags all night. Those were some great times.

Yea, it's hard to type one-handed!

But Ahhhh....I remember all that...and the worse that could happen is you might need a shot of penicillen or maybe some special shampoo.

I believe those wineskins are still available for sale but in the camping section of all places. I wouldn't know how to wash one out thoroughly. They are lined with plastic, of sorts, these days but bacteria will still grow without proper washing and while they might make you look cool for about 5 seconds, I would not even want to attempt to wash one out unless there was a way to break it down to make sure you didn't leave anything behind.
Honestly, unless it was a costume party, stick with the modern version often called camelbacks.

Fortunately I never had such experiences.

They are like a case of food poisoning looking for a victim.

Je suis d'accord avec Billhelm. Bouteille et la tige de verre.

Ah, but taking glass to a lot of the places wine goes very well makes one persona-non-grata. Doesn't work well with group camping.

As for the hygiene aspects of a wineskine (I just might be imagining a third word for them, besides that and bota bag...guess nobody else here knew 'em by anything bug wineskin. Ah, well...), guess me and a bunch of my friends are all dead from bad critters camping out in ours????

1: Buy a box of wine.
2: Remove bag of wine from inside box.
3: Instant wineskin.
4: Profit.

Boxed wine is VERY popular at group campouts.

What's even more fun is hanging the bag from a standing IV bag hanger with wheels.
