Last time i checked out XFCE it was Xubuntu and it was bloat... well what Xubuntu had done to XFCE was shocking bloat as it was meant to be light and nimble.

So my main desktops for old machines were LXDE/openbox based.

Anyway I have rediscovered it this week and installed the bare XFCE desktop and I'm impressed. It runs on this P3-850 with 256Mb RAM very well and offers more functionality than openbox/lxde.

+1 I've been using Xfce for the last couple of months.. since Gnome 3 chased me away. :)

I'm very content.

Are you running it on a decent PC with compositing? It must fly on a decent machine :)

I have minor tweaks to the panels to make them look nicer, but have yet to get to grips with configuring all the panels really nice. Whats your desktop like?
