Damn....now I can't find the article that was listed on Yahoo. Well, just in case it was real, it'll be fun to listen on the bands to see how it affects things. The article said it happened about 1AM today (presumably EDT), wasn't directed towards the Earth, and should get here in a day or two.

I have an app on my iPhone that alerts me to interesting stuff happening on the sun. The video was amazing—it's a really huge flare

Hey, you could live in San Diego where you'd never see the aurora borealis. Or, if you did, it would probably mean real trouble.

NOAA's Web site (http://www.swpc.noaa.gov/index.html) is now saying that it's only gonna give us a glancing blow.

What do they call that stuff? Ejecta?

So, it's an ejectulation, then?

I believe it is a mass discharge from the region of the coronal ridge.

Ejecta, mass discharge, I would expect those things after a glancing blow. Probably just about any kind of blow. I can almost remember...........nope. The memory is gone.

Actually, I would expect a mass discharge to originate in the Vatican, maybe the Pope? I know he was the fist to use mass storage.

Carl.... it was 2001 or 2002 (if I recall correctly) that there was visible aurora borealis in Southern Arizona.

I don't recall that. Not saying that it isn't true, just that I don't remember it.

I remember that and if there was any chance of seeing it here, that was thrown out the window with our steamy climate and hazy skies. I think I looked outside for a few nights and just saw clouds. I said f*&k it and crawled back in my lair.
