Surprised to see CSX motive power that far west.

Railroads often use power sharing arrangements. CSX used a BNSF loco somewhere and, in return, they lent BNSF one of theirs for X amount of time.

That's it. Quite the assortment of power here.

It makes economic sense. Locomotives don't come cheap and most of the time the RR has all the motive power they need. When they're in a pinch for one reason or another, they just call around until they find another road that has some power they can spare, then agree to loan them some of their own back in return once the pinch subsides.

Hey Bill.
Nice shots.
If you ever want to do some panoramas and you can't find that feature on your camera's software, send me the files and I'll stick them together for you.

Although I don't disagree, I believe it's more a run through thing when a train transfers from one road to another. Why waste time assuring all the locos are branded with the current road's power when the train is ready to go as it is?

Obviously, the few remaining railroads finally learned what business they're in. At long last.

Albi, what ever power is coupled to the train they use, only change is when low fuel occurs and that's not often, normally the train is yarded and then switched, reclassified to a new train and out of the hub in less than 12 hrs the crews are only allowed to operate 11 hrs 59 min. then the taxi brings a fresh crew out to relieve the dead crew (dead means no more than 12 hrs on duty per federal law) I've waited sometimes over an hour for the taxi after going dead on the road... Best job I've ever worked, stayed a total of 26 years between the Elgin,Joliet & Eastern (EJ&E) and retired from the Belt Railway of Chicago (BRC) I was a yardman, conductor and yardmaster during those years...

I rode from the BNSF (BN at the time) yard in Cicero to CSX's yard in Riverdale via I believe the old B&OCT some years back. It was on the Sea Land stack train which I caught in LaCrosse, WI and rode to Binghampton, NY.
