Last night I was getting an old CB ready for sale and the skip was rolling. I noticed that no matter where you go now, some channels are saturated with noise from sea to shining sea.

I gotta side with Teh Bunneh on this one. I like Mel Brooks films—I've seen Blazing Saddles at least ten times and it still makes me laugh—but didn't care much for Spaceballs.

Ditto, no Spaceballs. "Blazing Saddles" and was it "History of the World"? Also I remember a "Young Dr Frankenstein"

Love Spaceballs, as well as most of his others, Life Stinks, Robin Hood:Men in Tights, 84 Charing Cross Rd, Blazing Saddles and this one...

It's still one of the best skewering of the sci fi movie genre I've ever seen (with Galaxy Quest a close second, although you have to be an ex-Trekker to grok most of the inside jokes). It's still, IMHO, pretty funny though.

You're thinking of History of the World Part I. And, of course, the classic Young Frankenstein.

His later work never did approach these levels. And it's a shame, as Spaceballs and Robin Hood: Men in Tights (a rehash of the failed When Things Were Rotten) were still (IMHO) quite good in their own right, even if they didn't rise to the top.

And maybe I appreciate the subtlety of the original The Producers. The second version (the movie based on the play) just seemed a little too much like Brooks trying to top himself, and overdoing it.

IMHO, I think Spaceballs was Mel Brooks pinnacle. How can you not like:

Funny thing is, I'm quite familiar with the luggage combination bit. I used it at work, when doing a presentation on our Single Sign-On application, and why we want people to start using stronger passwords.

Only most people didn't "get" it. A couple even complained to my boss, which was a waste of time since he's also a Mel Brooks fan and approved the use of that example enthusiastically.
