I presently have AOL as the HP pre installed home page on IE. I'd like to dump it.
I ONLY use IE to play poker on MSN games because any other browser won't work.
A blank page would be best, then I wouldn't have to load all that AOL crap.

Bill, try this:

1. Click on Windows Start (lower left)
2. Click on "Control Panel"
3. Click on "Network and Internet"
4. Look for "Internet Options", click on "Change your homepage"
You will see "Internet Properties" dialog box. You should be at the "General" tab, if not, click on "General"
Hope Page options is on the top of the General Tab dialog.

It's easy: just open up a command line window and type in

format c:

That'll get rid of all the bloatware in one easy step.

No! Don't really do that!

Fdisk C: is faster.

no wildcard required so nothing is forgotten here.

Don't need the *. The 'R' flag is recursive, so everything under '/' is rm'd :)

Fdisk C: is faster.Might be 'faster', but it's relatively trivial to rebuild a partition table with the data still in tact.

Anyway, back to Bill's question about Bloatware..

As long as you have enough disk space, don't worry about installed programs unless they are running after bootup.

If you do a "Ctrl-Alt-Del" and run the "Task Manager" look at the "Applications" tab and look at the running programs first. There might be something running that looks stupid, Google it if you don't know what it is or does. Uninstall or stop it from running on startup if it's something you don't need or want.

THEN, look at the "Processes" Tab. Now that list will be a lot longer, it will tell you what is running, use the same method above. There will be a lot of Windows/Microsoft stuff, I'd leave that alone. But you may find some processes that are using resources that you can get rid of. You can kill processes from this screen, and you may cause temporary instability as the system bitches about "dependencies". But this will give you more clues as to what programs need what processes.

Good luck in your quest.
