If anyone is interested, Mack emailed me. He and his family escaped without a scratch. 8 of his neighbors are dead. He said the place looked like a scene from WWII.

Donations for the Salvation Army were being taken at 'DSG's father's calling hours. I told 'em to send what they collected to the AL relief effort - they really need it.

Glad to hear that Mack is okay.

I think he had a running tab since before tabs were invented. Looking at the ledger going back 4900 years or so, I see where he ran up a huge tab for his 900th birthday party (no Gretchen) and the total came to 12 chickens.

I just have a hard time wringing my hands over some asshole who said nasty things about NOLA victims, and now since it's him, all of a sudden i'm supposed to be all concerned about him. I'm not. I'm glad he didn't get killed, but that's as far as it gets for me.

He's going to have to deal with the "tough shit" logic that he's been spitting out for years when people have problems, and I have no sympathy for him right now. Who the fuck does he think he is after all the vitriol we've seen from him. He's just another selfish dipshit that got in over his head financially, and we're supposed to bail his ass out. No, I don't think so.

Whatever else it was like with Mack here -- he was someone I could always count on for interesting and informative BA conversations. To me, that's worth a LOT. But then, whenver we did tangle politically, the discussion was carried out until we realized that we're actually taking about the same thing from two different viewpoints. Once we got there, it seemed the differences weren't as great as it may have looked going in.

I miss him (but don't miss his sig. lines!)

In general I tend to like rough weather. I feel it is what helps make men. Rough weather builds strength, character, endurance, and fortitude. However, weather so rough and severe that is will most likely kill is pushing well beyond the limit of human endurance. It is going too far. Such weather is to be respected and feared and avoided if at all possible.
