Thankfully, the Mexican army stood in the face of superior forces, and won; thereby laying the plans of Napoleon to aid the traitors of the Confederacy to waste.

Our brothers and sisters south of our border have our gratitude. If they lost, we most certainly would have the United States of America and JesusLand.

You haven't been through the Bible Belt in this country, have you? It's JesusLand.

ETA: Then there's this "JesusLand" (http://creationmuseum.org/).

Considering that Mexico pretty much depleted their agave crops and created a shortage of tequila thus driving the price up to the levels of fine Scotch, I will be abstaining from distilled cactus and just have a glass of wine.

¿Por que no? Está después de mediodía, compadre.

Seriously, no. In fact, I haven't consumed an adult beverage in over a month.

Just what part of Latin America produced the burrito anyway? Or sour cream on everything? Or shitty Pacifico?

Right on all accounts, especially the beer. My Mexican co-workers always laughed and called Corona a "girl's beer."

AAR:

Yesterday, calling hours for 'DSG's father were held - he passed away Monday of an apparent heart attack and she's been in PA ever since planning the funeral. I rode the bike out yesterday morning, arrived around 1PM and started helping out with the preparations.

We got out of the funeral home at 8, dropped her mother off and went in search of a Mexican restaurant. Friends, this is NOT an easy thing to find in WPA; the area is chock full of Italian, Slavic and Polish eateries...but very few offer genuine south-of-the-border fare.

Rey Aztec in Lower Burrell was open - but only til 9, and it was 8:55. The staff welcomed us in and we ordered dinner. Their frozen margaritas were easily the best either of us has ever had - they tested more like an alcoholic sherbet than a drink.

Given the fact that the funeral was held at 11AM this morning, I was a pall bearer and had to be at the parlor early to coordinate things I went easy on the booze - as did Nicki.

Tomorrow night will be a different story. Our favorite area place - El Jalapenos - will be in full swing and one of us is going to get fit shashed. ;)

I attended a meeting of a local ham club last night. After everything was concluded, discussion turned to having dinner somewhere, and that the Mexican restaurants were likely to be crowded because of the holiday. Then, someone suggested Grandy's. To which was replied, "It's CINCO de Mayo, not REDNECK de Mayo!" :snicker:

I hope whoever that was got chastised for using "redneck"... one of those inconsiderate words. :chin:

Yeah, but at least it's all one country still :)

Only on paper, we are bitterly divided otherwise.

As far as the celebration goes. The venue last night was done up in all these pinatas and Mexican flags, and tons of gaudy Corona shit everywhere. But it was mostly black people and white people in sombreros...i felt icky being a cracker last night.
