I realize this is of no interest to anyone but I wanted to get these 2 on the same page.
The red one has a 4-5/8" opening and the raw alum has a 4-1/8" hole.

BTW, this Mac G4 I'm using is an absolute POS!

I don't know jack about Chevy II bell housings but a Mac G4 is getting pretty long in the tooth. It won't even run the current version of OS X.

George, that should be that it's the correct Chevy orange.

yes, no adblock capabilities, has a lot of strange quirks like ctrl+click to get right click.

According to my understanding the 1962 chevy II was the first to use this type bell housing (it had the small hole) and was the first car to go to the longer transmission (which eventually became the standard for all their cars). In 1964 the 283 V8 was an option in the chevy II. The manual trannys that could handle the higher horsepower had a larger bearing retainer diameter, hence the other BH with the larger hole.

I had a 1963 Chevy II which had a six & 3 speed manual. I converted it to a V8 w 4 sp Muncie which meant I couldn't use the stock bell housing. A friend's kid took it to his high school machine shop teacher who set it up on a lathe and did an absolutely perfect job of cutting the hole bigger to accept the Muncie bearing retainer.

Never had a problem with the modified BH between the 375 hp 350 & the Muncie tranny.

The easiest way to see the hole size difference is to look at the space between the clutch fork stud (the circle at the 7 o:clock position of the hole) and hole edge.

This exact same bell housing eventually was used on ALL Chevy engines. From the 153 cu in 4 banger to the big block 454.

One time at the drags , I saw the Flywheel /pressure plate in a Corvette come apart. Went through the stock bellhousing, through the floorboards, and out the windshield and roof. I always used a Lakewood after that.

Lightweight, low performance, passenger applications have their disadvantages.

If I remember right, anything running in a stock class with a solid lifter cam, had to have a scatter shield.

If it's got either Mac OS 9 or OS X installed, it will support any two or three-button USB mouse.

Talk to Garlits about that, he's missing 1/2 of one of his feet.

Are you a Mac person Carlo? Another 12 days and I'll be back on my HP PC.
I scanned an old picture here then modified it to be bigger and added it to the photos library in this Mac G4. Every time I try to upload it I get the same, small, original image even though when I preview it it's the larger, slightly cropped image I want.

Yeah, been using them since '89. What software are you using? And what version of the Mac OS?

Hey George, remember that incident on I-95 (shortly after it opened) 60s I guess. In the Richmond area of Philly. Some flatbed rig hauling a couple semi-dismantled autos southbound lost a torque convertor from one of the cars. It bounced once, came back up into oncoming traffic, through a guy's windshield and severed his head completely off?
Pretty gruesome but I'll never forget it. Think a Lakewood would have helped?

OS X, but must be an old one. Every time I try to upgrade something I get a notice I have to have 10.5 or newer.
The GD new animated ads take more time to load than the entire page I want to see. PITA.
