Anyone remember Silvercup Bread ? My mom used to like Silvercup because it waqs one of the few commercially available breads that would really toast up nice and dark and still retain a good consistency.

Oh, yea. Silvercup Bread!!!!

They might be most famouse for the Silvercup Rocket (http://www.solarguard.com/silvercuprk01.htm). Walking through that at the Michigan State Fair in '57 or '58 was one of the highlights of my childhood!

And the bread? Guess it was OK....interchangable with Wonder, Tastee (Baked while you sleep), etc.

Never even heard of it. Must be one of those regional brands that's since been folded into one of the big bakery conglomerates.

The WBNY QSL card reminds me: I got a reception report via eQSL from a SWLer in the Netherlands. I thought that was pretty cool, having been on the other side of things for years as an SWLer myself. I sent him a real card.

The way I remember it was better than Wonder. But Wonder is better than Wonder of today. These days Wonder bread is not bread.

I've been trying to make my own biscuit recipe from scratch. Last batch tasted like Saltine Cracker Biscuits.

I never have had good luck with biscuits. Muffins I can make all day long but my biscuits always seem to end up being about an inch tall.

You need a heavy rolling pin and a large slab to throw your dough on. Then work the dough to the exact letter of the law. It's hard to work in lard or whatever you use instead and get it to come out fluffy. Try a yeast reipe, double up on the baking powder, work the layers, then let is set to rise after you've cast your balls.
