How far east?
Already had to cancel my Tuesday evening bullseye conventional pistol match (OK, NRA?). Lightning strike took out the power to the target system and a torrential downpour is not conducive to precision shooting.

Yeah , sheesh , last time you had bad wx , you sent it here . Now half my Tech/General study group is too busy doin' damage assessment and relief counseling to come to class . How can they get ready for stuff , when stuff keeps happenin'? We fared a lot better than North Carolina , though . This one is forecast to miss us , and yet....

Yeah, my oldest missed getting wiped off the map by one block. Siding damage, nothing more. He's near Ft. Bragg.

We had Tstorms this evening.
We had a TVS-indicated supercell pass immediately to our south around 3AM. iNWS - a Blackberry app from the National Weather Service - was pinging my phone with alerts. A buddy who lives south of Canton stated their weather radio SAME setup was alerting so frequently that he ended up powering the unit off.

Around here we're too far north . Thunderstorms don't happen much here till the very hot weather comes round.

On the Islets of Langerhans, sometimes we'll go an entire year without seeing a thunderstorm but when we do get them, they can be pretty damned wild. One time a lightning strike nearly dropped a pole pig right on top of my car. Instantaneous flash and boom, with lots of sparks from the power line just as I passed beneath it. Woo-hoo. I went home and had a couple of stiff drinks.

In certain locales, those are known as "exotic dancers".

We had a storm here one summer night that came very unexpected. The cold front had already passed through and the temps were down to 60 deg (cool for summer nights here) and usually at that point the threat of storms is passed. About 11:000 pm I start hearing this continuous non-stop rumbling and I look to the west and see constant flashing in the sky. I am talking about lightning with no breaks,,,just one flash after another with nary a split second in between. When it finally did hit the barrage of hailstones was incredible. The winds were icy cold...like you would feel in up here in January. Surprisingly no tornado's were spotted despite that we were under a warning.

These days I seem to like the cold. Keeps the noisy annoying neighbors indoors, keeps idiots off the streets, and, I don;t need fans or air conditioning.. Look at it this way, I keep the window open all winter long, even on the coldest winter nights. And I don't need to run much heat either, I'm comfortable at 55-62 deg indoor temperature.
It's supposed to be 72 here today but right now at 12:40 its 46 so I doubt it will get that warm.

Well, it never reached anywhere near 72 deg today and tomorrow night they are looking at 32 deg and a high of only 50. So, looks like the cooler air is hanging in there but I know that it will happen all at once and zap...it will be hot. Which reminds me, I gotta fix that air conditioner.

Right after we moved here from Dinuba, CA. we had a night of pretty stiff storms. W5TAT (my darling bride) got out of bed in the middle of the night with the intent of a head call. At that instant, there was a ground strike close enough to be able to hear the BBBZZZTTTT when it hit. She never made the bathroom.
I hate when the local WX radar display is basically a big orange arrow , pointing at my house , kinda like now . No giant system , no reports of damage yet , but that much bow is a little scary .
