my hp laptop has the double tap feature, tap it on the right then immediately on the left and the cursor jumps a few inches to the left. it has started doing this (one in about 50 times) with just a single tap.
I tried to turn this feature off but don't think it can be done.
any soog-jest-tee-onaze?

See if there is a touch pad icon in your control panel.

it's not in here anywhere & touch pad doesn't score anything.

I can turn the touch-click feature completely off but then must use the mechanical button to left click. I like the touch click if it works ok.

maybe if I could discover what that jump 3 inches feature is called I'd have a chance to find out how to kill it.

Try cleaning the touch pad surface, and make sure when you double tap that you are not close to another area with your fingers.

The metallic covered touch pad on the HP laptop I'm using now seems to have a bit of a proximity effect, and it will jump like that too.

I second the cleaning. Dirty touchpads tend to do that.

If cleaning doesn't work, try voodoo.

First, curse the demons that are inhabiting the trackpad and make them feel unwelcome, then strike the computer repeatedly with a wooden mallet. That should do the trick.

This thing is getting interesting. If I do the tap right/tap left thing to get the cursor to jump a few inches it only works with both taps being done by the same hand.
There is some capacitance/static electricity thing going on.
I think Dave may have hit it with having other finger/s too close to the pad even though they are not touching it when I tap.
Will know over time.
I keep hoping an unknown, and never before done, combination of fingers and touches will cause a beautiful and nekked 25 year old to pop outta this thing.

That would be a "good touch"?

Some trackpads are recessed, and cleaning the edges with a Qtip is helpful on those. Trackpads on keyboards are popular in the industrial PC environment, and the machine tool floor environment. Trackballs and mice were worse for getting gummed up.

The touchpad isn't dirty but there is a very slight film of human excretory grease on it.
