150 years ago today April 12th, 1861 the war that never seems to end to some people started at 4:30am. Today in the halls of Congress, the battle rages on. Nice to know nothing was changed :)

The Union lost the last simulation I ran with my kids, again...

I think I'm going to re-run it next time with current technology/climate/military strengths. Just to see how it pans out :)

Maybe today they'll vote to extend the protection of the Voting Rights Act to all Americans . Like hell .

150 years ago today April 12th, 1865 the war that never seems to end to some people started at 4:30am. Today in the halls of Congress, the battle rages on. Nice to know nothing was changed :)

Sorry, it started in 1861, not 1965 -- which is when it ended on April 9, Palm Sunday. The following Friday, Good Friday, John Wilkes Booth, a drunken actor from Maryland, used a Philadelphia Derringer to put a single bullet in Lincoln's brain.

Another reason to avoid Philadelphia.

April has historically been a tumultuous month especially in recent times.
As for the Civil War, people are still reliving that with a special affinity as if they were there. Many who don't believe in reincarnation will tell you that they fought in the Civil War in a past life. Some have even found the exact spot that they died, on the battle field. many said that they welcomed death for the human condition was so miserable. Kind of what today's GOP is trying to accomplish.

Actually, I was not correct when I stated it ended. Lee's surrender was the beginning of the end, but Joe Johnston and Uncle Billy Sherman were still fighting in the Carolinas and the war in the West continued. The last man killed in the Civil War died in Texas in a battle the Confederates won.

Booth did the South no favors. Had he not shot Lincoln, US history would have been vastly different.

Today would better be remembered as the day FDR died in Warm Springs, GA.

I think the last shot was fired in June 1865 but the last battle was in May 1865 and it was a South Victory
