Took a little ride up the road today and enjoyed the sights. How about an Austin Healey 3000?

Nice. Very nice.

You really need to come up for the Vintage GP in July.

I might as well tell you now, the Pittsburgh Vintage Grand Prix will be on two weekends this year... the Vintage racing will be in Schenley Park the weekend of July 23 & 24, the "Historic" racing will be the weekend before, July 16 & 17, at BeaveRun. (That's for the "muscle cars" and the more "modern" racers that are too fast for Schenley)

There's not a lot of Amateur Radio activity at BeaveRun, although that's changing. But we will be out in full force providing race communications at Schenley. Anyone who loves watching real racing... no insult to the NASCAR and IndyCar contingents, but let's face it, those are anything but sports cars as the average person could drive... should be there. Anyone interested should get a hold of Corky N3MJP, and we WILL get you on the track, right up front.

How close? Well, that picture above (post 8 ) was taken after the heat was over, so I'm actually standing on course to take it. See where the broom handle is? That's where we stand.

Wish I still had my hopped up Opel Manta. Had great fun tweaking on Porsche and BMW supremacists. So did my buddies running Datsun 510 screamers and Mazda RX-3's.

I would love to screw around in those gymkhana events again. Way more interesting than just drifting. Meomorizing the course was crucial. Some of us got free tires from local tire stores... with the required ads on your car, of course. One buddy had an Opel wagon that won a lot, it was very balanced and tricked out.

It was all those years spinning around on frozen lakes with bigass V8's that taught me about precision at the limits of adhesion. Grinning silly just thinking about it.

I did the same thing on dirt, frozen lakes being hard to come by in California. It has served me in good stead and gotten my ass out of a lot of potentially bad situations—one of the few things from my misspent yoot I can honestly say that about.
