I think it was one of the best show ever made. If you want argue about it go right ahead. Just like the WAR series, I could watch it over and over and never get bored and learn something new everytime.

Nah. We need comic relief, especially now.Spoken like the true disaffected, bitter, disenchanted liberal you are. But I remain curious as to the fact if the South is such a terrible place, why is it you Yankees come down here, put down roots, and continue to bitch? You would be happier if you stayed in the North.
And so would we.

Oh, Great. Richard the southern victim.
Please explain why the Civil War (not that bullshit "War of Northern Aggression" crap) never ended.
Here's my big time disconnect with all things southern (sorry, I can't capitalize anymore after listening to your noise and the likes of racists like Haley Barbour).
You guys claim to be victims. How does that work? When I was in MS after Katrina, the locals who were working, had homes and others who had shelter spent most of their time bitching that NO got the attention and they didn't. Granted, some parts of the Gulf Coast were fucked up, but nowhere near the level on a global scale as New Orleans, yet the local white people where pissed off that THEY didn't get any attention. Boo Hoo. Those people had homes and electricity and food AND insurance. At least my company at the time was there and we paid them according to the contract very quickly. But New Orleans got the press, so the panhandles whined.
It was the same shit in 2004. Those dipshits built houses on the barrier reefs and whined when the feds were slow with them, forgetting they were told not to build there in the first place. There was some asshole who was staying at the hotel I was in Pensacola who constantly whined about the feds and his insurance company when it was completely clear his policy excluded his damages completely. He was a whiny southern jerk who always changed the channel to Fox "News" in the hotel common area. I always changed it back.
You southern guys are ALWAYS victims. I don't have a clue why you have this voodoo. Guess what. You aren't victims at all. With the Sons of confederate victims excuse me, veterans, it's clear to anyone with a brain, the organization is and was completely racist from the beginning. The "heritage" crap is nonsense. Your spin about honoring your dead is equally bullshit. If honoring the dead was the issue, then tending graves and providing for a telling of history would be your mission, NOT perpetuating the racism of the South by protesting changing of the flags of southern states incorporating confederate symbols WHICH WERE CHANGED TO THOSE SYMBOLS IN THE 1950'S. That isn't heritage, that's racism, period.
You're white and entitled. From your rhetoric, that's clear. The irony, which is completely lost on you, because you don't know your OWN HISTORY is the power center of the south was the slaveholding elites. They fueled the South Carolina succession. They used the race issue as lever to get YOUR ancestors to fight their battles for them. It's just like now. Teh stupid are being used by the Koch brothers and others to fight their battles for them.
Get a clue. Figure this out. Guess what, Richard, I actually qualify to be a Sons of Confederate Victims er, Veterans member. My father is big into family history and we have Lowrey's that fought in the TN Giles County Third Infantry. These guys were sucked into the vortex just like your family was. Once they left the south, the voodoo vaporized.
The whole issue/problem/voodoo in the south is about race. Period. The sooner you guys grow up finally and figure that out the better. It's a problem for the whole country, but you guys have it the worst, so don't wimp out and do the finger pointing routine. As long as you have idiot racists like Haley Barbour as one of your leaders, you are fucked.

How about Barbour's referring to "White Citizens' Councils" in MS as not being racist at all, but merely a group of civic-minded businessmen? Sound like it rings true? How 'bout George Allen's use of the term "macaca" in reference to a Black campaign worker? Do you believe the South is free of racial bigotry today? Even close?

Do tell, my esteemed brother amateur from the Buckeye State. My son lives in Dayton.
I think you have seen me post things about the Scot-Irish and farming bottom land and the one's farming the hills. My family came to America by a land grant given to Sir Owen Garrent and his son-in -law Bartholomew Pryce, by King William of Orange and Queen Anne for services given to the Crown during the time King James II was deposed. Both Garrent, and Pryce bloodlines bridge the Royal House's of York, Lancaster,Turdor, Steward, and Bourbon. Pryce was married to Garrent middle daughter Mary Elizabeth Anne, and their son Andrew Milton Pryce and his wife Jane Alice (ne) Lynne came to over see the Grant and settled in the area which is now around Ashville North Carolina. So you with me so far Rich?

If this information that you presented were worded in a more genteel (respectful) manner it would still be considered an attack by a hostile abolitionist who just doesn't "get" it. The Civil Rights movement means a call to arms to the haters.
But carry on, as propagandists will. We all came "out of Africa" anyway.

We don't deny bigotry, what pisses us off is the holier than thou attitude of the Northerners. Your hands are certainly not clean, and your pious virtue is anything but.
There are bigots of every stripe in every state in the union. The South does not have a monopoly on bigotry, as sanctimonious Yankees such as yourself contend they do.

You give yourself away when instead of calmly and tastefully presenting your point, you resort to vile invective and profane language. Since this series is considered a tv masterpiece, I am sure it will be beg-a-thon night as well. I cannot believe 20 years has gone by. Burns presented the humanity, and horrors of war from both sides and made it real for the viewer. Unfortunately, the war has not ended for some folks.:ugh:

BTW, I know exactly where the Mason-Dixon line is. We pass over it every time we head to Alexandria to visit the kids. Now, we either do so along US 40 (south of Uniontown north of Keyser's Ridge) or, further east, I-70 (leaving Fulton County).
I grew up in Southern California, that's south sho nuf.
Then I moved to Florida, lived there 10 years, moved to Augusta, GA for 4 years, then moved here to the DC area (yankee turf). When I move it will be back to the South, Southern Ca. I hate snow, cold weather, and weird people from New England.Oh? Then make sure you call my boy when you want to get tickets to see the Nationals play. (202) 640-7651, ask for Paul.

Ummm. I don't know where in the "DC area" you live, but you might get a map and look up the Mason-Dixon Line.
I live in Leesburg ya gal durn flatlander, stay off my land.....
I thought Babylon 5 was the best show ever made, seconded by Dr Who but I have no taste.
I really liked Babylon 5, although I had trouble catching the local station it was on it's last season and didn't really catch all the nuances. But Deep Space 9 was a notch better. But only a notch better. IMHO, YMMV VWPBL(STn)

I have inlaws in Leesburg and Middleburg. In fact, my xyl's uncle used to be the sheriff of Middleburg, Jeep Craun.
