Other articles on that site tell of the other broadcasters helping out, and they are back on the air.

Glad nobody got hurt.

That's going to be a hell of a construction project for somebody, after they grok why it failed.

The WKBT tower is about the same size and vintage. I fear that the day will come and it craps the bed I give it a 99% probability of landing right on top of a nursing home.

Why the hell is the nursing home so close to a structure like that?

Tell me about it. I got hit with some golf-ball sized hail walking down to the subway stop last night.

Could be worse. Westmoreland County got hit with a couple of tornados around 5 PM (EDT) yesterday. They're saying about 90 homes damaged, about 30 destroyed. Tore the roof off of a high school auditorium too.

Tower was most likely there first, surrounded by empty fields. Then the land got sold, and the people who built the buildings just assumed that the tower would never fall.

Not this time. The tornados (it's official now, courtesy of the NWS) went through a residential neighborhood. The local high school suffered significant damage, the football field severely damaged (scoreboard and pressbox destroyed) which around here is a major tragedy. If I recall the news correctly, ~90 homes suffered some damage, ~30 of them destroyed completely or damaged enough that they are not repairable. The amazing thing is that no one was killed, or even hurt outside of some cuts and bruises. Now when you consider that there were at least 200 kids at the school at the time (one group rehearsing for a play, the track team practicing outdoors, and so on)...

About 4:45 PM on Wednesday, I was looking out the front window at work with my boss. He was on his Blackberry assuring his wife he'd be home soon. Skies had turned very dark, and we both saw clouds circling, albeit very slowly, over the Allegheny river. I left a few minutes later, and about 2 blocks from the LRT station, I got pelted with hail. No warning, it suddenly stopped misting and down it came. Chunks about the size of your thumb. Not fun.

I didn't find out about the tornados until I got home. Needless to say, all the news stations had plenty of coverage.

My son's wife's family lives in that general area as well, but as far as I know, no one had any problems.

No trailer parks got hit...???Given the right hurricane, it is 100 percent certain this trailer park will be hit by a falling tower. This one is 1049 feet, in Hallandale Beach, Florida.

Uh uh, more like Russian Roulette with an automatic. Oh and I noticed something odd, Date Village? That's DALE Village. It's the name of the mobile home park. The tower was erected by WTVJ television in Miami back in 1949. Back then the land was out in the middle of nowhere. The mobile homes got put there in the late seventies and early eighties.
