Hello.
Had to look to be sure.
At 85MPH daytime car speed limit on select highways, Texas has the fastest speed limit of every state.
OK, who gonna be next?
Rudy....unless something happened the last couple of days, it's 80. Not 85.

LOL 80 miles on selected highways in the Netherlands, 60 miles further is Germany with unlimited speed for large stretches on their Autobahn.
Now that is good for some speeding fun ;)
The ONLY two states that are 80 mph are currently Utah and Texas. NOTHING is 85 mph, although the rumour mill has it that Nevada is consdiering 85 mph.

Hello.
The law is on the books, the governor expanded it to try and sweeten the deal.
85 mph limits
"The legislation creating the Trans-Texas Corridor (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Trans-Texas_Corridor) allows speed limits of up to 85 mph (137 km/h)[143] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States#cite_note-142) on roads built under the program. However, no such roads have been built as of April 2009, and as of April 2010, the program is effectively discontinued. The language of the statute does not prohibit the Texas Transportation Commission from raising the truck speed limit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States#Texas_3) or the night speed limit (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Speed_limits_in_the_United_States#Night_speed_limi ts) on these roads."

Let's talk about the 35 Corridor, aka, The Highway to Heaven. Bible people as well as Muslim scholars have tied this road in to biblical prophesy.

Hello.
The link says 80 but has a direct quote of 85.
I was driving from San Antonio to El Paso and back in a big truck, all night driving when I saw the signs.
To be sure I looked this up on the web, something really new.

As if the Texas State Patrol gives a flying fark about how fast you are going between San Antonio and El Paso. That road is hundreds of miles of absolutely nothing. Been there done that.
Max lawful speed in the Sunshine State is 70 miles per hour. Actual speeds on selected highways are higher. People confuse the route number with the speed limit on I-75 and I-95.
75 in OK on the turnpikes, 70 elsewhere.

You all should leave speeding to us on our side of the pond, the average US made car's suspention is only good enough for driving in a straight line ;)

Hello.
I 10, from El Paso to San Antonio is nearly all that, a straight line.
The most common thing to happen is someone decides to "open it up" and burns out the engine or transmission.
Quite a few cars (and trucks) are not built for sustained 85MPH.

There's a stretch of 25 between Denver and Colorado Springs that I drove on a bit in the mid-90's, where the speed limit was 85, I believe. Guess it's not there now...and it was only a short stretch anyway. Can anyone refresh my memory about this?
