I raced against this car in my 55 Chevy once at Atco dragway in NJ back in the late 60's .
It was really fast. If I had the money I would jump all over this one.

What was he running in it back then, and what could one put in it now which would comfortably get the car into one of the sub-10 second brackets?

No longer has the motor/tranny that it was raced with that made it "Special"
Now it's just a shell...................

A 383 Chevy stroker with a Fogger Nitrous System and a powerglide trans should get it in the low 10's

Hello.

I have seen auto tranny cars with a clutch, other than torque converter loss elimination, is there an advantage?
I know the Chrysler was noted for the pushbutton pre-select shifter, did this contribute to the overall effort?
The second overdrive transmission has always appealed to me, much like the range selector for 4 wheel drive but without the transfer case, will this work with an automatic transmission?
What I would like to do is bring a 1959 1 ton GMC truck more up to date.
I have replaced the points and condenser with a GM HEI unit and replaced the generator with an alternator but would like to do throttle body injection and update the tranny.
If need be I can do an engine swap but would prefer no EGR or other emission controls, this thing runs on the gas you will find in Mexico.
I am also looking at replacing the steering wheel with something with an airbag, the original has already been replaced by something safer.
I have already redone the dashboard and eliminated all the knobs.
I was not at all impressed by the original seat or the fuel tank behind same, both changed.
Would I gain by adding a body controller from a more up to date automobile or just add as needed?
I would like original but up to date. ;)

Hello.

The knobs and lung puncture steering wheel may be nice to look at from a cosmetic standpoint but from a safety standpoint it is death in the making.

Safety made major progress in just a few years from the 1959 model year.
I simply looked at the improvements and went for it from there.
Style is nothing to die for.
