After years on the farm getting up at 4AM to get the chores done before going off to school for the day, waking up at the crack of dawn in teh army, and all the years working in industrial settings where we start at 6AM, Sleeping in to 5:45AM feels like I've wasted half the day. Any other early risers here?

Hello.

Farm? Army? crack of dawn?
This is Texas, the cows take care of themselves, and you dare not try and milk them!
Most cowboys have a hard time with the army, they are all like Chaney, or worse, and you remember what happened at the last ranch visit in Texas!
The DADT policy is not so much an issue either, it is the 'My pet goat' thing.
You see, the goats are used in a manner that is hard to explain, but the cowboys like that goat very much.
So you see, you need to be very careful when you say things like crack, not that any of them are going to run out and get drugs, no, it is a far worse addiction than that!

I have always been an early riser, and nowadays I generally roll out of the sack between 0530 and 0600 seven days a week. Unlike most of my friends who are slug-a-beds, I also turn in early, usually between nine and ten. Wish I could say that I was one of those lucky folks who fall into bed and are asleep before the head hits the goose down, but it usually takes me a while to cast aside all the trappings of the day. I have found that a fine single malt or a sipping rum is a definite aid to passing that soft barrier.

Seems to me, late-risers waste the best part of the day. I can do a lot when I am fresh, but I tend to lose steam and become steadily stupider as the hours wear along.

I'm always up at 430 - 500a.
Slam some java..go and be the productive citizen.
And then there are days like today..up at 430...head to the barn with some tar thick java..watch the sun bust the dark and ponder a rigorous schedule of extreme daywasting.
3C here at the keyboard now.
Sunrise rocks.

I put my feet on the floor at 0400 nearly every morning. Even though I'm off today, it was no exception. I cherish the peace and quiet of the early morning, and if the sun is up when I awake, I feel like I've wasted half the day.

The snooze button on my alarm clock actually gathers dust. I can't remember the last time I heard the alarm, which is set at 0500.

I usually hit the hay between 10:30 and 11, +/- depending on what has my interest. I find that I sleep much easier after a libation as well. Normally a nice cold tasty beer. I do my best coffee drinking at work. I have my co-workers trained to stay back until I've had at least one cup. Most days at work are pretty good though. I have a reasonably secluded work area where I can get on with things and can generally work at my own pace. Here's a pic of a sample set of cabinets I built a while back. http://galesvillefiredepartment.org/kc9eci/72459_1403958346662_1463480580_30862344_3010934_n. jpg

Nothing fancy but still fun to build new things.

Since I am off from work, I stayed up until my head starts nodding about midnight. Jay Leno's horrible attempt at humor did me in. I was up at 7:00 no alarm clock needed. I am normally in the sack by 9:00 PM, up @ 3:30-4:00 am. My coffeepot has a timer, so hot java is waiting for me.

Meh. During work days, I'm up at 5AM. Weekends, and days off: 9AM. Sometimes 10AM. Sometimes 7AM.

I agree, I feel as though my best "off work" work happens when I get up early though. But, I love getting the chance to lay in bed. My stint in the military of getting up at 5AM everyday, yeah, I'm not game for that anymore.

Last 15 years i worked 04.00 AM up, coffee, 05.00 AM pick up the people and the 1 hour drive to work, arrive at 06.15 AM ( picking up newspaper and cup of coffee from the petrol station) make coffee at work, asd read paper, see the other guys come in that lived closeby at 07.00.

Work, till 15.30, mostly later home anywhere between 17.30 or 22.00 somewhere in between.
Multiply 6 days a week, mostly 7 days.

Accident happens, not allowed to do that work anymore, took 1 year to gett used to get up later.

Now? to bed at 0.300 AM, up at 0.900 AM.
Working some DX at night, when the rest of the family is to bed it also is quit to do my thing.

I won't dispute that. The peace has been shattered now by the youngest watching Spongebob.

I've never been able to get up before 6 AM and most times I'm still asleep when the alarm goes off at 7:30. Sleeping in for me is usually 9 AM or 10 AM, depending on when I got to sleep the night before. Most nights, I'm still up at midnight.
