Can anyone out there recommend a good 5 port (or more) local wired network switch or hub that doesn't contaminate the rf spectrum from the AM broadcast band right on up through vhf and uhf ? At present I have this crappy "NetGear" 5 port switch that literally kicks out a crapload of intense rf interference pretty much across the entire rf spectrum. The thing serves it''s purpose as a network switch but it also serves a dual purpose as a wideband rf jammer.

My D-Link DIR-615 is pretty quiet. Better than the Belkin I used, till it blew up.

My experiences with NetGear switches has been nothing but positive. No discernible difference in background noise noticed here with the old 10/100 16-port, nor the 10/100/1000 16-port I use now.

What voltage does your NetGear operate at? From past experiences with other switches, I have found it's the power supply that usually causes all the RF hash. In one case, I had a 5-port switch that ran from a 3.3 volt switching power supply that did create all kinds of noise on 75m and 40m.

Both of my NetGear 16-port units run off of a standard 12 VDC wall transformer and not a switching power supply. YMMV.

BTW, if anyone needs a 10/100 16-port switch, please let me know. ;)

How much you want for that switch?

I'll take 2 ounces of your finest California spliff. ;)

Two ounces?? Man, that's one expensive switch!

(I'm glad you're joking--not only would that be a ton of money, I wouldn't even know where to obtain the stuff any more. As that Ian Hunter song goes: "I am what I hated when I was young.")

Ah, I hate to break this to you guys, but I picked up a Netgear 16 port 10/100/1000 switch at the last hamfest for $5

No, it's not for sale, it's in use as the central hub downstairs (feeding my work PC, the shack PC, and the various laptops and other PC's I work on from time to time).

Meh, two ounces is only like 130 or so...

Well, grams nor ounces nor prices per ounce have anything to do with the situation at hand. All I know is that this switch (or its power supply) has got to go ASAP. Radio from MW to UHF is unusable within 50 - 75 feet of this "jammer/switch". Sad they could put this crap on the market and its FCC approved to boot.. I have an old hub laying around someplace. I'm looking for it now.
