It was on ESPN's website and been the chat all over the Pitt sports boards via Rivals and Scout.

I don't follow Pitt football. I went to Penn State.

And frankly, my only surprise was that Wanndstedt lasted as long as he did. There's something about that guy that came across shifty and sleezy. I wouldn't trust him to give me change for a dollar.

Well I like Chad follow WVU , so anything about Pitt showing Dave the door is a good thing. Ron my eldest daughter went to Penn State, my son went to Akron, and youngest daughter went to WVU. Dad went to "The Ohio State" so anytime Penn State and OSU play she won't say a word to me or watch the game with me.

All I have to say it's surprising Steve Pederson allowed this to go on as long as it did. As long as they hire someone to coach that team to make it just as entertaining for WVU to beat more often than not is fine by me. Ask any Pitt fan what the annual WVU-Pitt matchup and 52 have in common. You'll get quite a few grumble's...

Pederson? Look at what he did at his immediate previous employer, prior to his return to Pitt.

Oh, and I don't have to ask about '52' -- all I have to say to a true Pitt fan is '48 - 14' to torque 'em off.

And don't forget... the only time WVU beat Penn State, it took a turncoat as QB to do it. I hope he and the coach's daughter are happy, the traitor.

HAHA! It's fun making Pitt fans miserable! Oh I remember what Pederson did here to Nebraska. Very sore subject with the Husker fans but Mr. Pelini is changing things along with Osborne.

Ah Jeff Hostetler! Well... That wasn't the only time WVU beat PSU... Don't forget Major Harris's run in the 51 to 30 win in Morgantown 1988. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Penn_State_%E2%80%93_West_Virginia_rivalry

We do not speak that name in this house.

OK, I did forget about '88. At least that one came fair and square. So that's two.

It's not right, you know. Penn State should be playing (and beating) Pitt and WVU every year. Never happen again. But that's another story.

LOL!! Well if JoPa had gotten his way and got the conference (Eastern Athletic Conference) he wanted formed but didn't happen (No thanks to Pitt) we would still be. I wish we could still be playing you guys. Many WVU fans wish we did!

Oh well you guys have Ohio State & Nebraska to worry about more...

No thanks to Syracuse and one of the other schools that was in the (then only basketball) Big East at the time, which didn't want to see the Eastern 8/Atlantic 10 conference morph from basketball only to an all sports conference.

Ironically, it was Penn State's bolting the "Eastern Independants" for the Big Ten that was the catalyst for both of those conferences finally becoming all sports. (And it's easy to blame JoePa for that, but it wasn't him... the President of Penn State at the time came from a Big Ten school and really pushed for the alignment, one of many unfortunate changes he made).

Pitt may claim to be the Beast of the East these days, but the truth is that they are little more than house cats... but the real Beast of the East is too tangled up with Spartans and Buckeyes and Boilermakers (oh my).

I have to admit that when the recent realignment drama was going on, I was really hoping that instead of the Big Ten raiding the Big East for several schools (which was thought most likely to happen, but didn't), they'd take on two or four more, and give Penn State a good reason to go to the Big East. But that was hoping for too much, too many shekels involved.

Oh no, not blaming JoPa on this as he had a vision and I did forget that SyrExcuse played their part in not wanting it either. Too bad in thinking of something that could have been an outstanding conference. Lots of traditional rivalries that could have potentially been up there with the one's in the Big Ten(elve) and SEC. It makes ya think, "What might have been"

Glad to hear that. The locals blame JoePa personally to this day. Especially because after he attempt to form an all sports conference failed, Penn State inquired about joining the Big East -- and was shot down by SyrExcuse and Pitt, another little factoid that often gets conveniently overlooked.

So, now they claim that he personally has prevented the resumption of the Pitt/Penn State and WVU/Penn State rivalries on an annual basis.

The reality for all three teams, though, is that you only have so many non-conference games to schedule, and more importantly, trying to put these rivalries back in their traditional spots (and working around the various league schedules to boot) is near impossible.
