Made my first contact on 30 meters last night... WOW. Big difference from 20M contacts.

It was...

A...

(Wait for it)

...ragchew!

Only lasted about 15 minutes, but the only macros used by me were the kn macro, and the 73 macro. I'm pretty sure Dana used the kn macro too :)

I was half expecting the usual "You're signal: 599<break> QSL VIA EQSL OR DIRECT. NO LOTW<break>MY RIG: DX-SUPERDUPER 9000<break>INTERFACE: $500 INTERFACE<break>ANTENNA: $50K DX SPECIAL<break> TNX FER QSO 73 SK"

Nope, first thing that came back was "Well, seems like 30 is quiet this evening, how does my trace look, and did you snag Canary islands yet? btu"

Nice, slow QSO, and really friendly guy. He filled me in on some tips and tricks for 30, and why he liked to hang out there during contests and whenever 20 gets too busy. Man, first ragchew on PSK31 I've ever had :)

I'm always happy to find someone on the digital modes who wants to do more than just swap macros. Had one on 20m yesterday, we typed at each other for at least 20 minutes and the only reason we stopped was because the QSB was getting too bad.

30m is a great band for PSK31; I wish more people would use it but most of the time when I go there, it's silent and no one comes back to my calls.

30 meters IS ham radio. It is the only band I'll set the rig to scan up and down and list listen to the world swoosh by.
