I haven't put out any decorations and I really don't want to. Normally by this time, we'd have had a tree up for a couple of weeks already, decorations up, some presents wrapped....

This year things are so tight and bleak, to be honest I think I just want to get stoned from now until the holidays are over.

I've been out of work for over a year now. It's Merry F-ing X-mas around here, too.

We used to decorate a friends grandma's house. usually would use thousands of lights.

this year all we did was use 10 light strands, 2 bushes and around the back of the front little garden. far cry from last year.

Just not all into it really.

Yep. For the first time in my life I truly hate the holidays, the gift-whoring, the snow, everything.

I'm enjoying the approaching holidays. Could things be better ? Hell yeah... But I'm not gonna let that spoil the fun.

Not much into it here, either.

We'll have the kids and grandkids here, and it'll be a huge expense. I think the last time I really enjoyed Christmas was when I was 17-18, and that was a long time ago. We still do it for the little ones, but the commercialization has about ruined it for me. I play the game and am pretty thankful I can afford to play at all.

Really need an attitude adjustment on the whole thing, and it needs to go towards family time instead of stuffing the coffers of what it's become.

This year I noticed many stores keeping regular store hours during Thanksgiving. I expect soon enough, the same will occur during Christmas.

The boss bugged me all weekend to start getting the lights out. Got that done. Then she started about getting angels and the animated deer out. Got that done. Then came putting the icicle lights on the new rain gutters; that one I balked at, since I don't want to risk them. THEN we had to go out and buy a tree... got that done. But I couldn't wait until tonight, oh no, had to come inside because the water might (*gasp*) freeze.

Tonight it was when am I getting the temporary hooks up to hang the icicle lights on the inside of the living room window? And never mind a minor crisis that came up.

Oh, and when I am building the manger for the nativity stuff she overpaid for last spring? And it needs to go where the deer are, so I'm going to have to move them, and how could the ground be frozen already?

Now she wonders why I'm not exactly in the holiday spirit.

This is what I get for marrying a shiksa. I should have known better.

Ebb and flow, it comes and goes.

Not necessarily. I've hated this time of year for a long time. Let's see here,
been married to someone who can't say no to their mother who is one to over
stress over holidays if everything doesn't go her way. My only enjoyment of the
whole thing is making sure things don't go her way.

Now if I only had a dog that would let me tire antlers to it's head I could have some real fun.

Most people are sick of Christmas around the 15th. By the 21st everyone is just going through the motions.
Christmas is for kids.
New Years is for grown ups.
Commercialism is for the corporations. It is up to each of us to do as we wish with the season but I draw the line at Nazi Santa Claus.
Hello,

So be goot...for gootness sake..."

Sounds like a Nazi to me.

Hello.

I never was one for Christmas in the USA, much prefer Mexico.
All the stupid chit people buy, why?
In Mexico, a pinata for the kids in the tree and a case of tequila for the big boys is enough.
Everyone pitches in and the festival begins.
Food aplenty for everyone!

So, when the kids get done with the pinata, do the tequila boys beat each other with the stick?

well as the US dollar becomes more and more worthless due to the government spending, its going to take more and more USD to buy that oil. thus the cost per gallon at the pump will go up up up up

My thoughts on Christmas are that it should be more of a celebration of Christ's life than a out and out assault on your available credit to buy more junk. For the holiday here, we will be having a Christmas dinner, no gifts as we have what we need and a lot of what we want already. We'll call our far flung relatives to say hello. We'll give thanks for our blessings, which in spite of the economy are many.

Christmas isn't about lights, or trees, or Black Friday, or Cyber Monday. It's about having a good mindset about what your blessings are.

+5000

If your holiday revolves around the physical and material then you are bound to be disappointed when times are tough.

Focus on faith and family and the rest will take care of itself.
