Anyone else chasing them around the bands? I worked them on 15M CW the other day and just went to the web site to confirm. I'm happy as long as I have one in the log. I'm not compulsive about trying to work them 3 modes per band. Anywho, the last upload to the online log cuts off the minute before I worked them so now I sit and wait to see if everything got logged ok.

Didn't even know about it until 2 days ago. Too much going on at work and home over the last 2 weeks.

Maybe I'll have some time on Monday to go after them........ maybe.....

Is this the outfit which has everyone in an uproar over their 17M, 20khz split operation?

Beats me on the 17M thing. They're on 80M right now, almost workable. WV3U is calling and displaying a misundersstanding of the term 'split' even though the KC Cops are shouting at him making it impossible to hear who the DX is responding to.

I believe they're going to be on thru 5 December. Still plenty of time to work them.

Lucy Furr had me up at 4 AM to let her out, since I was awake I went and listened a bit. The Kermadec guys were coming through like gangbusters on 40... with few calling. Could barely copy them on 80. 80 would be nice, but I already have them on 40, 30 & 15.

I'm hoping to snag them on 12 on Saturday or Sunday. Should have had them last weekend, but I just was never in the shack at the right time.

Unless there's a repeater on the Mothership. Ask Rudy about that.

From my location in NE OH, I can work Mars (PA) fairly easily during the summer VHF ducting season...

What? No RTTY? Slacker!

I blew out the 830S at the vacation place (the rig I use for PSK31 and RTTY) and I didn't bring the digital interface for my 706. I suppose that I could have jury rigged something, but then I wouldn't be a slacker would I?

I know a guy that used to work digi modes by taping the computer microphone to the rigs speaker and holding the rigs microphone to the computer speaker.

They are headed home, it was a good operation. Im very happy to have worked the 5 bands...more than i expected. Never did find that ZD9, though. Hes only 100w to some wire if i read correctly, and im out west so its not looking too good. Only some basic stuff on 40 right now, upper bands are dead.

I heard the ZD9 a bunch of times, but they were always weak and I couldn't bust the pileups. If it were easy, it wouldn't be fun.

Pretty much. The only game in town right now is the 9Q50 station on 20, and a weak ZK on 17...both have big piles on them.

Worked that 9Q50 station on Sunday (I think it was Sunday).

Never found time to go after ZL8X. Heard them briefly on 20m on Sunday, but very weak. There will be another one in the future and I should have another 2 solar cycles in me. ;)

For sure! BTW, i meant ZL7, not ZK. I still need ZL7 on 17, but i also have a recording session in half an hour...ill have to look for them on 40 later because i need them there too. The only 9Q ive worked was actually IN Congo, but he was a pirate, even sent me a card. But, at the DXCC desk (which i dont partake in), it says i didnt reach Congo. I know i did, and its an interesting conversation piece. I guess i should try to nail down the "real" 9Q here soon.

A few years ago I worked the two-man British DXpedition to ZL7. I worked them on all bands 80-10 on CW. They didn't do phone. I heard a ZL7 on phone about a week ago and worked him. Only one band, though.

The next time i come back east, im bringing a rig! I hear the 9Q, but hes usually no more than 559, not to mention i have a wall of east coasters using a full KW and a 200' tower with a 4x4 stack, 10 elements each aimed right at them....my 100w/inverted V/mojave desert QTH is no match for that. But on the other hand, i easily get the rare eastern asian stations where you guys would have trouble breaking the pile. So i cant complain too much since theres always something.

And what's wrong with 559? I've worked plenty of DX that was 559. The 9Q50 was about that when I worked them.

Wow... that must be nice. All I have is an AL-80B that, on a good day, does 800W PEP and some wire strung up in the trees. :chin:

Yes, there is. Most of Asia is a tough path from here. Not impossible (I have worked China, Japan, Thailand, and Laos over the years), but it's not as easy as you have it.

Caught the 9Q50 station on 40 Saturday evening. Don't have keyer hooked up to the rig in question.

Right next to it was an OR4 - Antarctic.

Both required the '940's narrow CW filter to be engaged along with the onboard audio filter. The rig's CW VBT was set to about 12 o'clock.

Switch modes to USB (no filtering selected; slope tuning wide open) while maintaining the same beat frequency and you could not hear the OR4 whatsoever. A solid S5 noise level completely obscured the station. With mode set to CW and the radio's interference-fighting controls set thusly, they were clear as a bell.

Not even my vaunted Drake R7s could have pulled that signal out of the muck as well as the '940 did.

Need to connect a keyer to that rig and start snagging all the DX.

Ah yes, the eastern wall. Now that I live in the southwest, I hate those guys. I'm tempted to also take a rig to the east coast when I visit my family to finish up DXCC on 80 meters, so I can temporarily be one of those guys I hate.

559 isnt a problem, i have 222 countries with nothing more than qrp-100w and wire antennas. Never owned a beam or amp in nearly 30 years. But 559 here when THEY are running the good stuff, AND a wall of east coasters...its me who is left out in the rain. Its no problem, im crafty, i work around the pileup and jump when the timings right. When you are a pissant, you learn a few tricks. ;)

But do you want to know whats sad....there are still some commons that ive never put in the log. Like Isreal and Greece, I have no FR's or FT's, Kuwait, most of the terrible T's, and India. I dunno, maybe 'sad' isnt the right word...curious may be more like it. And i guess i can scratch SV off the list, i finally got one yesterday! The good part is that they are fairly common countries (save for the T's and the FR/FT), i can still look forward to enjoying my first contact with them in the future.

But the tradeoff is nice, i have Clipperton, Swains, Chesterfields, Mellish, Kermadec now, all but one KH and all but one KP, Annobon, etc...all really cool catches and a lot of fun. Its all good. But this year has been great so far...i just logged my 10th all time new one of the year...havent done that since i was new myself. Theres still some december left to log one or two of those commons.
