How did you get involved with ham radio? With truck driving?

Favorite places to ride in and around AZ?

I asked you about your new job.

Beesides...I got the inside version of Kelli's Ham Radio Experience when we were wolfin' down food in the Appleby's - remember?

And I really don't think you would be up for a bike ride in the slop which came down that afternoon. Most passengers I've taken in such ('including 'DSG) have not been amused at the prospect of Drowned-Rat Syndrome.

Well, DUH!!!! Yes.

If so, how about on a motorcycle?
Not 100% naked.

Turkish prison, gladiator movies etc.
Oh hell NO!

How did you get involved with ham radio?
I've always been fascinated by radio...long time SWLer...however my late grandfather (WA7LTP) really got me interested. He noticed quickly that even at 10 yrs old, I had some understanding of propagation. If my father would have been more supportive, I probably would have been licenced in the mid-70s.

With truck driving?
Well... this wasn't my first choice of professions, but with the problems I carry (ADHD, mild Aspergers, majorly anti-social and not being a people person in general), it was a MUCH better choice than having to work around people. In fact, I am a totally different person in real life. A very thick shell to crack to get to me.

Favorite places to ride in and around AZ?
Ahhh... the joys of motorcycling in AZ. A sweet day ride is from home to Globe, AZ via AZ 87, 79 and US 60, and return via AZ 77 (nice sweet sweepers, gorgeous scenery). Also, Catalina Hwy. up to Mt. Lemmon is an excellent heat-beater in the summer... as well as the 2m/220/440 DX on 5 watts from up there (9200 ft.).

Ever been to the nudie camp at Marana?
Nope. I don't even know where it is.

One of the major companies. NOT J.B., C.R. England, Schneider, Knight, FFE, Stevens. But the company is based in 7-land.

The inappropriately-named Swift, by any chance?

BTW, I drove for K-nigget for a year and was pissed off about 90% of the time.

I have a gazillion friends/family members in and around Phoenix, Sedona, Tuscon, Sun City...more every year, it seems...most of whom are into some form of powersports. Be that dirt riding, highway touring, ATVs, etc. I keep getting invites to come visit and ride with them. Will have to check your routes out if/when I do.

Your weapon of choice for operating /MM - an HT, FT-817, ?

What's the industry insider opinion of Arrow Freight and the shenanigans they pulled with their drivers?

Good choice. We have one of those, along with a VX-7. Interfacing them to the Hondaline OEM audio equipment on our bikes - even with the Kennedy FRSet-4 helping things out - was "interesting".

From what I've gathered around Teh Interwebz, I understand that Dougie Pielsticker and his OKC-stripper-cum-wife were playing quite fast and loose with the company's books, and that Mama Pielsticker may have had a hand in the mismanagement as well. Any truth to that?

Brother Dave:

Probably around age 9. Only fantasized me being romantic
with other guys at that point.

But it wasn't obvious, as I did keep so much to myself with my other
problems. And, growing up where I did, it probably wasn't prudent to be
out...although my liking other boys was apparent to others when I was 13.

What do you enjoy most about ham radio?

Least?

How much HF to VHF/UHF activity - percentage-wise - do you do?

Any other RF or electronics-related hobbies?

Please be perfectly honest:

Do you or have you ever had ill feelings towards women in general?

I had a gay friend who was always down on women even though he had women friends he shared mutual interests with.

I'd say Im about 50-50 HF to VHF. I do not contest except on 6m.
You can say that my least favorite activity is contesting.
As far as other hobbies....computers.

Given the type of people you find driving trucks, do you ever run into trouble with homophobes? My experience has been that, generally speaking, truck drivers are okay with lesbian drivers but really, really hate gay men.

W7XF

Carl....
You're going to find homophobic people no matter where you go or what you do.
And, yes, for some reason, heterosexual men think that watching 2 women getting busy together is erotic. And, yeah, they have an easier time dealing with lesbian drivers.
