First off, electronics is a hobby for some.
To build simple circuits such as a light bulb and battery quickly lead to relays and transistor
Electronics is like Music, you get out of it what you put into it.
Want to get on the air? everything from CB and GMRS to Amateur Extra and cellphones are available to you.
Now that the DTV transition is complete there are hundreds of analog TV sets that still work but are of limited use just waiting for you to play with.
The best sets are battery powered.
A simple older model transistor radio is also good, start with an AM radio and some schematics and theory and go from there.
Learn what you can and above all, have fun, that is what life is all about.

I do not go to Pittsburgh willingly, I am sent there by my evil masters. ;)
I am a truck driver who will haul pretty much anything and am sent down and up to fetch whatever is needed.
Equipment from up North gets sent to the South once it gets older.
Even older equipment goes to Mexico.
Where I go is all about what might be needed at the time and at what price.
Things like skid steer tractors are usually 6 to a load, sometimes more but can also be hauled by car haulers.
Some equipment is sent down to Mexico to be rebuilt and returned.
I have also gone out of state when I was hauling meat, in this case my load into PA would have been a backhaul.
I actually like operating heavy equipment, keeps me content and friendly, as long as I do not need to deal with cops or ranchers, and Republicans too! ;)
I really did grow up with the Mexicans, I was a teenage runaway from a pair of drug addicts.
To this day I call Sinaloa my real home, and in Mexico firearms are uncommon outside the police and military.
I have no understanding of American football or hazing, or streaking for that matter, I want none of it.
In fact there is one prime reason why so large a number of Mexicans do not assimilate, they do not want to.

The Texas prison system was noted for being really bad a few years back, the feds fixed it.
But even to this day people get killed while in lockup, the Mexican Mafia in Texas.
The solution is to stay out of jail!
In the case of driving while in Mexico, be sure to have current and correct Mexican insurance (seguros) and bond.
The AAA auto club can be of great help in Mexico to US citizens.
