I didn't attend my bris. I was one of the lucky younguns in 1961 that had an attending doctor that gave my mother the option of 'snip' or 'no snip'. Mom said 'no snip'.

(BTW I'm not Jewish or Muslim)

I do not recall my ceremony either. I was born in the city hospital. They told my mom something about take it or leave it....that was a decision I might have wanted to make for myself. I guess I am one step closer to being Jewish. heheh.

So, what brought you to ham radio and how has it enhanced your life? Or, if it hasn't enhanced your life, how has it made your life worse?

cb brought me to ham radio back in the mid 80's. my elmer was a cb'er turned ham. made my life hell with the ex wife but has been great since the end of that chapter in my life. equipment that works, a wife that has no problem with radios (except when i stick them in her vehicle), and i now how have her agreeing to a 50' tower as soon as i get the current honey do list done. p cant wait.

You might have already answered, why did you move to 4 land? I went to college in Atlanta, and Athens sometimes the same week (That is a separate post) I loved almost every moment there. The native 4 landers I met were wonderful people. I had a good time there. The only amusing thing was how a half inch of snow can close down the city of Atlanta. Have you assimilated yet?

moved to 4 land in 93 when the ex's grandfather was diagnosed with emphysema. he retired to ga about 4 years earlier. with the ex's spending habits i could not pay the rent nevermind move back to the northeast. the threat of snow in the athens area shuts everything down and you cant find milk or bread at a grocery store anywhere. the native 4 landers are great people as long as you are near a larger city. in the small county i was in i was a foreigner ans so was anyone else who moved in from more than ten miles away. as for assimilating, hell no. i am one of those damn yankees and until they stop saying it i will act ten times worse......lol

Good for you, because if it comes down to it they will tell you in no uncertain terms that you will never be one of them. They always said that the South Will Rise again and by looking at the attitude of the nation over the years, they are right. Half the population has become panophobic (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panphobia).

In '74/75 my wifey at the time & I drove to camp out on the FL keys over the Christmas/New Years holidays with a Chevy Malibu wagon that she fixed up nice to sleep in. Shag carpet, retractable curtains, the whole 9 yards.
On the way back to PA (PA tags too) we drove off the highway in NC and down a dirt road into a farmers field to sleep in the car for free. Rained all night turning everything to muck... got stuck.

I remembered seeing a small, old timey gas station on the way in so we walked there for help. The whole time I was telling wifey to be damned careful what she said and try to use tact as best she could since we were Yankees in their territory.
When we got there it was a plenty large man and his late teen daughter that probably saw no one but us the entire morning.
I explained our situation and the guy immediately goes out and fires up an old farm tractor, pulls it up to the door and hollers in "let's go."

He pulls the car the entire length of the road, a good 250 feet.
I follow him back to the station and ask how much? He says nothin. I tried to give him $10 (that was something back then) & he would not take it.

Meanwhile I notice wifey having a great time with the guy's daughter, laughing and carrying on next to the pot belly stove.
I said c'mon we gotta get moovin. She gives me this look "we gotta go already?"

well you were in North Carolina. the stereotype is all too true in NE GA. a lot worse in the small towns. i have watched southern hospitality at its finest. sweet as can be to your face but the second you turn your back, watch out. this is true across the board and does not just apply to yankees. they do it to each other.. the further north you get the less you see of this crap.

every once in a while you will run into just a good soul and they are some that would help anyone out in a bind.
